FAQs

Question

When should I plan to arrive and/or depart?

Answer

Totally up to you whether your trip is a quick weekend getaway or an extended stay. If you intend to maximize your time in Puerto Rico (we all deserve a vacation!), we recommend arriving Wednesday, February 21 or Thursday, February 22. For those in town by Thursday, February 22, we've planned a few activities you are welcome to join in on! On Friday evening, February 23, we’ll host a welcome party in Old San Juan. See the "Schedule" tab for more details. Troy and Lauren will depart San Juan on Monday, February 26.

Question

Do I need a passport?

Answer

No! Puerto Rico is a US territory therefore you do not need a passport. Additionally, Puerto Rico accepts US dollars and you do not have to purchase any sort of international data plan for your phone.

Question

What airport do I fly into?

Answer

The closest airport is San Juan Airport (SJU), otherwise known as Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

We highly recommend the Condado Beach area as there are many hotels and Air BnBs at various price points as well as its close proximity/central location to many restaurants, beaches, Old San Juan and the airport. As of now, we will not be planning for a hotel block as to allow our guests to choose accommodations that are best for them. Some suggestions are provided in the “Accommodations & Travel” tab for ease. Troy and Lauren will be staying at the San Juan Marriott & Stellaris Casino and we look forward to meeting up with you!

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

Since this is a destination wedding, please have your RSVP submitted by Friday, January 5. We highly recommend that travel arrangements be made prior to your RSVP. You can answer via the “RSVP” tab on our website.

Question

What do I wear to the wedding and reception?

Answer

Attire for the wedding will be “island cocktail” or semi-formal. Please keep in mind, it can get warm and humid in the rainforest and the wedding and reception will take place outdoors. Light sprinkles are a possibility too! Women: Maxi dresses, midi dresses, cocktail length dresses, dressy jumpsuits/separates, etc. Keep in mind the wedding and reception area requires walking in grass and on uneven surfaces/slippery stone steps. Chunky heels, wedges or flats may be best! Men: We recommend slacks and a button down shirt with closed toe shoes. Jacket and tie are not required, but are welcome. We kindly ask that you keep your shorts and flip-flops for the beach. For outfit inspiration, see here: https://pin.it/7m1j8ir

Question

Are children allowed at the wedding?

Answer

Please let us know if you intend to make your trip to Puerto Rico a family affair as our wedding venue has a waiver and liability form required for all children attending under the age of 12. Note for the safety of your little ones, Hacienda Siesta Alegre is a working horse farm, has a lot of levels with stone steps, and an unsupervised pool with no fence around it. While we want everyone to have a great time, kids will need close supervision by their parents at the venue as such.

Question

What’s the weather like?

Answer

The weather in Puerto Rico in February offers stunning beach vacation conditions. Temperature highs reach 84°F (with lows not going below 70°F) and most importantly, it’s one of the least rainy months at the beach. It’s important to note the wedding ceremony and reception is in the Yunque Rainforest, which *can* be more rainy than the beach area.

Question

How do I get around Puerto Rico?

Answer

Uber and taxis are available throughout San Juan and they are quick and inexpensive. If you plan to check out sites outside of the San Juan area, you may want to consider a rental car. Do note, there are plenty of tour companies that will provide transportation to and from your hotel/accommodations should you wish to book a fun excursion! *** Transportation will be provided for guests to the wedding ceremony & reception venue from the Condado Beach area. Please meet in the lobby of the AC Marriott hotel (1369 Ashford Ave, San Juan, 00907, Puerto Rico) no later than 2:30pm. The shuttle will depart promptly at 2:45pm. Please look for the driver holding a sign with “Lauren and Troy” in the lobby and the wider group will be led to the bus. The bus will return the group back to the AC Marriott after the wedding concludes at 10pm. Should you need to leave the wedding venue earlier than 10pm, please ensure you book transportation ahead of time as taxis are very limited in the rainforest!

Question

Is Puerto Rico on “Island Time?”

Answer

You bet! Puerto Rico observes Atlantic Standard Time, which will be one hour ahead for our East Coast guests and two hours ahead for our Central Time guests.

Question

Do you have a registry?

Answer

We are lucky enough to have everything we need for this new chapter together, so please, no gifts required! However, for friends and family who have expressed an interest in gift ideas, we have created a "wish list" for your convenience. Please see a selection of ideas on the “Registry” tab.
