About this venue

Originally called Cold Spring Ranch due to an ice cold spring. The Dorrington Hotel was built in 1852 by John Gardner who married Rebecca Dorrington and moved her out from Scotland. It served as a depot for stockmen and provided lodging for guests visiting the Giant Sequoias at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Read more about our history and our permanent guest Rebecca below.

French doors open up to the back deck area with an amazing view of the mountains and a vast open meadow. Access to the meadow for playing frisbee, playing corn hole, throwing a football, etc. is provided with your stay.

The Cottage

Located just behind the hotel this cottage has the basic amenities to enjoy a relaxing, quiet get-away.

Enjoy our private and cozy cottage perfect for accommodating one or two guests. Nestled in between large trees but also overlooks a beautiful expansive 2-acre meadow.

There's a kitchenette with a 2-burner stove, mini-refrigerator, microwave, and a toaster oven. Cottage comfort also includes plush bed linens and towels, a gas fireplace as well as a wall heater, free WiFi, and a combination shower/tub.
