Just a short TWENTY minute drive south of Lynchburg, Avoca, the principal architectural landmark of the Town of Altavista, is an American Queen Anne-style house, designed by architect J.M.B. Lewis and built in 1901. Designated a Virginia Historic Landmark and listed in the National Register of Historic Places, Avoca is the home site of Colonel Charles Lynch, Revolutionary War hero. On the of grounds of the Museum, enjoy your private event with the ambiance of the Avoca mansion and the original Revolutionary War era kitchen, as well as 18th century outbuildings. Avoca’s grounds also feature a restored Victorian Garden and Arboretum!

Victorian Garden for the Wedding of Your Dreams!

Separating the cabin and the mansion is our meticulously maintained lawn. The lawn is large enough to easily host a ceremony and reception of 200 people. Avoca's grounds feature a lovely, well-kept Victorian garden, an arboretum which covers a half acre of land, a covered pavilion and more at an amazing value.

Avoca, the principal architectural landmark of the Town of Altavista, is an American Queen Anne-style house. Enjoy your private event with the ambiance of our 1901 Queen Anne Victorian mansion. Your guests will love being able to tour the house and explore the gardens during your wedding day celebration. The iconic 1901 Victorian mansion definitely the focal point of Avoca and brides adore getting dressed and ready for their day in the gorgeous tower room on the second floor of Avoca. While the bride has access to the house all day, the groom and his groomsmen get ready in a log cabin towards the back of the property.
