About this venue

The Hartley House (also known as the Bond-Bates-Hartley House) located in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina was built circa 1790 for John Pearson Bond. The house later came into possession of John Bates, husband of John Pearson Bond’s great niece and a member of the family that the town of Batesburg was named for. There are many local legends surrounding this house and it’s friendly visitors. According to local tradition, the Bond-Bates-Hartley House served as a stagecoach stop and post office, prior to the founding of the town of Batesburg. Architecturally the house is a typical upcountry farmhouse, with a portico adapted from the Greek Revival style.

The lawn is home to our fire pit, crepe myrtle garden, gazebo, and 20’x40’ tent. Dance the night away under market light lined patio, or mingle around the fire pit. Enjoy the beautiful South Carolina weather while you dine al fresco or enjoy the tented lawn for covered reception seating (equipped with lighting and electrical hookups). Enhance the property with your own style through hanging drapery, additional market lighting, or floral displays.

The original flooring, fire place mantels, and refined furnishings bring this Greek Revival upcountry farmhouse to life. The exquisite 12’ ceilings draw your attention to the exquisite chandeliers throughout. The inside offers an enormous hallway complete with a 19th century square grand piano, two open concept Parlors, a Dining Room, a Grooms Tavern, and a two-room Bridal Suite. Full of natural light, mirrors, and lounge furniture throughout, you are sure to experience all of the magic of Hartley House.

    I am a wedding photographer, and I think the wedding that I shot at Hartley House in December 2021 might be my favorite one yet! The house itself is beautiful along with the perfect decor and design that is in every room. Photographers will be happy to hear that large windows in the getting-ready rooms bring in plenty of natural light! The locations for the ceremony and reception are right next to the house, which makes things very convenient for wedding party members and all the guests. The Hartley House staff is also very kind and easy to communicate with. I highly suggest booking this venue. I'd love to go back and photograph another wedding!

    Hartley House is a beautiful venue that's absolutely worth the extra drive - Especially for history buffs! This property is a slice of southern history that can't be replicated. Hartley is unique Hartley and that's one of my many personal favorite qualities about the venue. Crystal is so easy to connect with and very professional with the booking process. The house is currently undergoing some renovations, but she communicates her vision to clients clearly. I'm so excited to see everything come together!

    Crystal with The Hartley House is hands down one of the best vendors I’ve worked with in the greater Columbia wedding industry. Her communication is excellent, she is flexible, and extremely helpful with problem-solving before and on wedding day. She also genuinely cares about her brides, and you can tell she is so passionate about her job and just being a part of the couple’s wedding journey. Hartley House is a stunning venue that is incredibly affordable. From a wedding coordinating perspective, it is such a convenient and logistically simple venue to produce events. I HIGHLY recommend Hartley House.
