Q: Do you take music requests?

Yes! I'm happy to take special requests in advance and arrange songs for the violin. Most styles of music work well on the violin--please inquire.

Q: Do you provide music for wedding ceremonies or cocktail receptions?

I can provide music for your wedding ceremony, the cocktail hour, or both. I normally book one hour for ceremonies or two hours for ceremony+cocktail hour.

Q: How early do you come to set up?

If playing by myself, I only need about 10 minutes to set up. However, I am usually in place 20-30 minutes before my start time just to be safe! If playing with other musicians, I normally allow more time to set up and adjust the sound system and would arrive 45 minutes before my start time.

Q: What is your style?

I play a range of styles including classical music, pop songs, Celtic fiddle tunes, soundtracks, and more. All of those styles work for solo violin or with other musicians.

Q: What is your travel and break down fee?

My travel fee depends on the location of your venue, and can range from $25-150 depending on the travel time.

Q: What do you wear?

I can either wear something colorful or all-black if desired. It also depends on how formal (or not!) your event is. For weddings I usually check with the couple to make sure I wear a color that harmonizes with their color scheme and does not draw attention away.

Karen Burciaga, violin

Karen Burciaga is a versatile string player who performs throughout New England. As a violinist, she is in demand for weddings, parties, church services and many other events. She often collarbones with other musicians on guitar, cello, harp, bagpipes and more. As an early music specialist on baroque violin, viola, and viola da gamba, she has appeared with numerous period ensembles. Karen holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN) and a Master of Music from the Longy School of Music (Cambridge, MA). In addition to making and teaching music, Karen also enjoys English, Baroque, vintage and folk dance.

Karen Burciaga, Violin was an amazing addition to our wedding day. From the very first email, she was incredibly responsive and helpful in planning the perfect musical accompaniment for our ceremony. On the day of, she arrived early and was warm and friendly with our guests. Her performance was truly stunning - the beautiful, emotive melodies she played on her violin created such a lovely, elegant atmosphere.
