My couples range all the way from attorney’s for the city of Chicago to small town midwest farmers. I’m a good mix of boujee and laidback — a little bit jimmy Choo, a little Lucchese too (but even those boots are pretty boujee.) Needless to say, I’m here for the boujee and the laidback.

My most important advice to couples is be willing to take the TIME for the creative process. Although photography is one of the costs of the engagement and wedding experience, there is one aspect of photography that makes a huge difference. It’s not money, it’s TIME. It’s the willingness of the bride and groom to take the time to let the photographer creatively experiment in the present moment with all of the elements around them. Light, shapes, angles, color, emotion, all of these and many more are part of the creative process in the photographer’s mind.

The name Arrae (pronounced [uh-rey]) came from my first initial and my middle name, Rae, added an extra r and made a new word. I love what I do. I found my way to professional photography in a roundabout way, having started my working career as a marine scientist and environmental educator in CA and then on Maui. After years immersed in the ocean and hundreds of hours spent underwater, I realized that I was happiest on days when I could adventure freely with a camera in hand. The drive to learn more and become a better photographer lead me back to school on the east coast, where I ended up finding a new dream career and a home and community that I love.
