We hired Shawfield Events for design and day of services. The design support they provided helped us bring our vision of our day to life. They provided direction for rentals and items we needed to purchase - helping make sure we had everything we needed and were getting it as economically as possible. The day of service was invaluable! Having the team there to decorate and set up as well as manage the schedule and all of the moving pieces of a wedding ensured that we were able to focus on the day, each other and our guests. They managed communications with vendors and really saved our time and sanity. I highly recommend Shawfield for wedding planning and am sure our wedding day would not have been the dream come true that it was without their help and support!

Steve was absolutely amazing. He went above and beyond to help out on my wedding day. From digging dirt for our unity tree, to holding back branches while our photographer took pictures, Steve does it all. Besides that, I absolutely love his video style. He captured every detail beautifully and I’m so thrilled I’ll have these moments to watch forever. Also, his turnaround time with the highlight video was unbelievable. I think we got to relive our wedding day like 4 days after it happened. Steve was such a pleasure to work with, and I highly, highly recommend him.

Walnut Hall Estate

5.0

Carrollton, IL
  • Venue
  • Up to 500 guests
  • Select services
  • Indoor & outdoor
  • Starts at $7,000

Walnut Hall Estate is an all-inclusive wedding venue on 12 acres, offering an indoor and outdoor ceremony sites, separate bridal suite and grooms quarters, an indoor reception hall with a customizable bar package and two separate houses that collectively accommodate you, and up to 24+ of your overnight guests. Plus you get access to the grounds the day before your wedding until the day after your wedding. Sitting only an hour from St. Louis, MO and Springfield, IL. Allowing us to serve Illinois, Missouri and beyond!

Why you'll love this venue

  • Dressing room available
  • Rustic-chic setting
  • Multiple event spaces

Venue considerations

  • Not wheelchair accessible
  • Venue feels large for events with small guest lists
  • Limited cleanup and setup services
Walnut Hall Estate has EVERYTHING (and I do mean everything!) you need for a stress free wedding weekend. I've had three daughters get married since 2019 and I've explored LOTS of venues in the process of helping choose each one... Walnut Hall beats the rest by a landslide. You just cannot find the number of amenities offered HERE, anywhere else, and it makes Walnut Hall my "forever pick" for the best place to hold a wedding! To start... you have the use of not ONE but FOUR separate areas (not to mention the beautiful "grounds" which include an old silo, koi pond, tree swing, firepit patios, outdoor light strings, etc). The most standout feature is the huge brick turn-of-the-century home that is dripping with character and photo "ops". The house truly can sleep a LOT of guests and it is very tastefully decorated. It even includes a "grooms quarters" in the basement complete with couch/tv and poker/pool tables. You have the Ceremony (former Dairy) Barn which comes complete with beautiful chandeliers and seating in the form of traditional pews as well as individual (nice) chairs. There are concrete sidewalks that link the Ceremony Barn with the Reception Venue (the white barn with huge wood doors). The reception area has absolutely everything including mens/womens restrooms, kitchen, bar, DJ area, greenery wall (which is a perfect backdrop for a dessert table). They have enough tables and chairs to seat a very large guest list (ours seated over 300 VERY comfortably!). There are long rustic wood tables for the head table (my daughter's head table seated 18!) With such a gorgeous space, MINIMAL decor is needed. The cherry on top was the ADDITIONAL guest house (which is where my daughter and her new husband spent their first night as husband and wife... wink wink:) Though it could have ALSO been a perfect place for parents/grandparents as it has two bedrooms, living room, full kitchen, etc. Add to this the fact that Brittany & Bobby (owners) were both attentive as well as AMAZING to work with and you have a combination for everything an event venue SHOULD be, but oftentimes is not! This is their passion and it shows. Due to having use of the property for the entire weekend, not only were we able to start decorating on Friday (important when you have a 20' U-Haul filled to the brim) AND we were able to host the Rehearsal Dinner "on site", which was huge in that we could "rehearse" and then just steps away have the beautiful meal, catered by The Brass Door (local restaurant who are pro's at providing services at Walnut Hall). The girls had a "girls night" in the big house on Friday and then the entire wedding party stayed on Saturday. Directly across the street is the Greene County Fairgrounds (with electric/water for anyone who might want to pull in a camper for the weekend) as well as several very nice VRBO's in the town of Carrollton. I simply could not find ONE THING that could have made our daughter's wedding any better and we are ETERNALLY grateful for that. If you're on the fence... let this help you decide...as I was not compensated in ANY WAY for this review... just a mom & dad who were 100% satisfied...you will be too! Hopefully I can come back, when we've gotten the photographer's pictures back, and post photos!

teri b photography

5.0

  • Photographer
  • Fine art style
  • Starts at $4,500
  • Serves Kane, IL

Hi, I’m Teri! I’m a Chicago based Wedding Photographer. I approach my photography as an artistic craft. I strive to create images that are emotional and striking. My life’s work is photographing people’s most joyous moments—preserving feelings and details that may otherwise be lost. I am obsessed with creating playful compositions, capturing fleeting moments that make the most treasured memories come alive again. The couples I work with place immense trust in me and it is my honor to create art for them.

Teri B was an absolute joy to work with for our wedding day. Teri's communication style throughout the planning process was professional, knowledgeable and made us feel at ease every step of the way. She is the sweetest person, and her experience really shines through in your conversations with her because she knows which shots to recommend and fight for. On the big day, Teri helped guide us to capture all the right moments while making us feel comfortable in front of the camera. She helped us narrow down our shot list to strike the right balance so we captured everything we wanted to, but also not make the day feel overly posed and over manufactured. The end result is nothing short of jaw-dropping. Teri managed to encapsulate all the nostalgic, heartwarming and stunning details of our wedding in a way that only she could do. The photos tell our story beautifully. We are completely in love with our photos so far and can't wait to relive our special day through Teri's artistic eye. We are still waiting on the full set, but our sneak peeks are already so amazing. It brings a tear to my eye when I look at them not only because I think fondly of my wedding day, but also because her level of artistry evokes in me a profound sense of wonder and respect for her work. If you're looking for a photographer who can capture the essence of your wedding through stunning, emotional images, I highly recommend connecting with Teri B.

From our engagement photos to our wedding photos everything was so incredible. She knows how to pose you, give directions, and creates a vision. The details of providing us with Polaroids when we sat down to eat was so awesome to look at and something that meant so much to me.

Rachael Marie Photography

5.0

  • Photographer
  • Fine art style
  • Starts at $4,200
  • Serves Kane, IL

At the end of the day, all we have are the stories told about us and the ones we write about ourselves. I love writing about the musings of life and sharing my thoughts with others in conversation and social media posts. I constantly document my own life so I don't forget the big or little moments. Every time I travel to somewhere new I love connecting with those who cross my path, and yet I love coming home to my dog. TLDR: sentimental soul, avid movie goer, mental health advocate, and decent chocolate chip cookie maker.

where do i even begin? we were so blessed to have Rachael with us on our special day. we hired Carissa for our wedding photography & chose to have her bring an extra shooter with & BOOM! we somehow got blessed with Rachael as our bonus. i could go on about everything from her amazing personality, the positivity & happiness absolutely exuding from her at all times, her killer taste in music, the sheer talent that is her photography skills (both behind the camera & assisting in posing with such ease), to the way she somehow makes it feel like an old friend is with you every step of your wedding day (even if it’s the first day you met her), wrapping you in her beautiful scarf to keep you warm between photos & the ceremony because you were shivering, & is even willing to join your friends and family on the dance floor amidst capturing the most amazing memories for you. never did i feel rushed, if anything she helped me keep my cool about my timeline & helped ease so much of my anxiety about it. okay, i know what you’re thinking, “amy this seems like an excessive rant for a wedding photographer.” BUT YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND!! our photography was one part of our wedding we were willing to splurge on, & if i hadn’t decided we absolutely needed a second photographer for the day then i would have never been absolutely blessed with Rachael. not only did she capture so many of our posed moments, but more importantly the candid moments that i was too busy spinning around like a maniac to notice & are now some of my favorite pictures. our photographers are one part of our day that i will FOREVER absolutely rave about to everyone & always recommend to future brides because i want them to be able to experience the same beautiful souls & genuinely perfect encounter i got that day. Rachael is the kind of person you want to reach out to when you’re thinking about future photoshoots, & who makes you want to do photoshoots just for an excuse to get to experience both her presence & her absolute talent again. if you were debating hiring Rachael, PLEASE don’t second guess it. you will NOT be disappointed. (did i mention the photos she delivered are simply out of this freakin’ world?! because OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS!)

Historic Edwards Place

5.0

Springfield, IL
  • Venue
  • Up to 75 guests
  • Raw space
  • Indoor & outdoor
  • Starts at $300

Edwards Place, built in 1833, was a social center of antebellum Springfield. In its gracious parlors Abraham Lincoln, Stephen Douglas, Ulysses S. Grant, and other Illinois luminaries gathered at elegant parties and balls. You, too, can have your special day in the same rooms where Abraham and Mary Lincoln were guests more than 150 years ago, now meticulously restored to the grandeur of their antebellum days. Edwards Place is available to rent for showers, weddings, and receptions – the perfect choice for a distinctive event in a historically significant setting. You can even include extra services for your event, such as the use of a piano often heard by Abraham Lincoln (and possibly played at his wedding!). Our rental space has three areas of possibility - the historic house museum, the grounds in front of Edwards Place, and the M.G. Nelson Gallery, a part of our parent organization, the Springfield Art Association, and directly attached by a doorway to historic Edwards Place.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Both indoor and outdoor options
  • Bridal suite on site
  • Offers full-service amenities

Venue considerations

  • No on-premises lodging options
  • Does not allow pets
  • Requires outside catering services
The Edwards Place is a beautiful site! The staff were very helpful and flexible allowing us to visit the site multiple times, they were open regarding their seating arrangement, and due to the nature of the site it is fully decorated. The site was beautiful and the wedding was as well! The historic charm of the home added to the romantic feel of the day. I would recommend this site to anyone looking to get married as it is wonderful all around!

More than a decade ago, two sisters - knew there had to be a better way to allow talented photographers and videographers to focus on what they do best -- create gorgeous art -- while providing couples with better support in the planning process. Together, they created an all-inclusive, stress-free environment where couples can choose from talented local photographers and videographers and work with a small team of planning experts equipped and eager to make everything a success. With the pressure gone, you can truly enjoy your big day. Relax and rest assured that all the emotional and moments will be documented with unmatched quality.

Our photographer was so laid back and made us feel very comfortable - we love that in our photos she made us look like movie stars! There was great communication with the team, and we wouldn’t change anything. We 10/10 recommend the OLAS team!

Thousands of brides across the United States and Canada have trusted Something Borrowed Blooms to provide the perfect flowers for their wedding day. We offer brides the expensive peonies, delicate ranunculus, out-of-season anemones, and the ever-impossible-to-find-magnolia — all at a fraction of the cost.

I used Something Borrowed Blooms for my December 2024 wedding. I used them for the bridal bouquet, MoH bouquet, and 2 centerpieces. I got so many compliments on my bridal bouquet and it was so easy to use without any concerns about getting my dress wet or damaged from real flowers. The flowers look real and even smell floral. The mailing and send-back process was a breeze. I would use them again in a heartbeat for another event.

Flower Moxie – Do-It-Yourself Wedding Flowers

4.9

  • Florist
  • Starts at $350
  • Serves Kane, IL

In 2013, 8-year wedding veteran Amy McCord Jones realizes she wouldn't be able to afford to hire her own floral services if she was a bride. Then, Amy discovers that there is basically zero help available for DIY brides. No flower recipes. No instructions. No access to florist-grade blooms. Rude. So she launches Flower Moxie! Flower Moxie remains a humble, tucked-away small business out of Oklahoma City. We don’t zoom around on scooters in some fancy high-rise. We stock an average kitchen with canned wine and Aldi chips and listen to true crime podcasts while photographing curvy ranunculus. Join us. There’s cake, hugs, and acceptance here.

Awarded Best of Zola
I highly recommend Flower Moxie!!! The flowers were amazing quality and I even had them delivered on time for a wedding three days after Christmas! I received my flowers 5-6 days in advance due to the holiday, and they still held up a few days after the wedding! The customer service was amazing, especially Alexa! She went out of her way to make sure she could help throughout any point of the service. She was very quick to respond and was very kind and sweet to work with! I highly recommend Flower Moxie and Alexa to help you with your flowers for any event! :)

When I tell you that my friends and family all commented on how breath taking our photos were, I am not exaggerating! My (now) husband and I had the best experience working with Connie. From our initial conversations, I knew she was the right photographer for us. She is super warm, creative, professional, and responsive. I let her know my vision and brainstormed ideas, and the end product was truly remarkable. My husband and I were both nervous that we would be awkward and stiff but Connie guided us through all the poses and we truly had so much fun. I highly recommend Latek Photography to any brides to be!

I have been a wedding photographer for over for over a decade. A few years ago my husband quit his job to work with me full time so we come as a photo team! Just like you, we have felt awkward in front of the camera. I’ve had photos taken of me that I didn’t like. When you go on a session with me, I will not only make you feel comfortable, but I will make sure you look good! I will give you prompts to keep you moving and laughing. I’m sorry but there are some angles, and poses that are not flattering for everyone. Like, please don’t take a photo of me from below! Hello double chin! What I’m saying is, We Got You!

Awarded Best of Zola
Lacie was absolutely phenomenal to work with throughout the entire wedding planning process. From the moment we jumped on a phone call to see if they were a right fit, I knew they would be. Her enthusiasm, understanding, outgoing way that she relates to people is an energy that you want on your big day. Our engagement session was incredible, she moves so quickly but efficiently, as to ensure you get all the shots you want, but is very mindful of time. Our wedding day was COMPLETE because of Lacie. In addition to her positive attitude, she helped smooth the timeline of events during the day when exterior factors were impacting the photography, and problem solved so wonderfully on the spot. She stepped in to help in moments that were above and beyond what we hired her for, and for that I am truly grateful. Her photography style is versatile and beautiful, specifically catered to your preference. I can't imagine a better photographer for our wedding and we are so grateful!

Believe it or not, we often have people ask if our pictures throughout our website are showing a mix of fresh and faux and…no they aren’t! Although fresh florals are pretty, we are totally in love with poser-blooms all the way here and that’s what we design 100% of our orders with.

I recently had the pleasure of working with The Faux Bouquets for my wedding and couldn't be happier with their service. Their communication through email was great - they were fast, reliable, and very helpful in answering all of my questions. The faux flowers they provided looked and photographed just as if they were real, and the final product was stunning. I would highly recommend The Faux Bouquets to any couple looking for beautiful, high-quality floral arrangements for their wedding.

🌹 WE ARE NOT FRESH FLOWER FLORISTS. WE WORK WITH WOOD & FAUX FLOWERS. PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IN YOUR REPLY. 🌹 Wood & Word Blooms is run by a Jen Angle, former teacher of 20+ years and specializes in using hand-painted wood flowers along with a faux, dried and preserved florals (nothing fresh here) to bring your wedding vision to life not just for that one glorious day but forever. Besides designing for you, I also offer DIY Wood Flower Experiences to create your wedding florals alongside me in person or virtually and 1:1 sessions to help DIY brides learn to do it themselves.

Awarded Best of Zola
Jen was AMAZING to work with! When it came to flowers for my wedding, I had NO IDEA what I wanted. She was very patient with me and helped talk me through my vision. She gave me flowers to pick from, talked about how big I wanted my bouquet and how much greenery I wanted, and then when I could find colors I liked in swatches, she color-matched the colors I wanted from an inspo pic I found online! She was very professional and patient with me, even when my plans changed or I needed to add to my order.  I am not the best at putting together a bouquet. I am also someone who likes control, especially when it came to planning my wedding. I was thankful that I was able to give Jen the reins, tell her what I wanted, and watch her make my dreams come true. When I first saw my flowers, I was speechless. She truly did make my floral dreams come true, and now I get to keep my bouquet for the rest of my life! A wooden flower bouquet from Jen is the way to go!
