I’m getting an error that says my image is too big

Zola only allows image uploads that are under 10MB. If a user encounters an error stating that their image is too big, several factors could be causing this issue:

  • Image Dimensions: Even if an image is within the file size limit, its dimensions (width x height) may be too large for the website's upload specifications. It’s always best to stick to the width and heights that are indicated on the size cheat-sheet.

  • File Format: Certain file formats, such as uncompressed TIFF files or images with multiple layers (like PSD files), can result in larger file sizes. It’s for this reason that Zola only allows JPEGs and PNGs to be uploaded, since these are more compressed image formats and therefore create lighter file sizes.

  • Resolution Settings: If the image is in a compatible format but still exceeds the size limit, adjusting the resolution settings during the image export or save process can reduce its file size while maintaining acceptable quality. For example, if your image is 300PPI and has the right width and height for the card you want to design, but the image file is bigger than 10MB, you can try reduce the resolution from 300PPI to something like 250PPI or 200PPI. Just be careful, as this may result in a slightly lower quality print.

  • Multiple Images: Sometimes users may inadvertently attempt to upload multiple images as a single file, leading to a larger combined size. Ensuring that only one image is selected for upload can resolve this issue.

  • Upload Method: Using a different web browser or clearing the browser cache can sometimes resolve upload issues related to technical glitches or temporary browser storage limitations.
