How We Met

February 22, 2019

God led us to the same place, at the same time, both sharing Jesus in a Zaxby's in Orlando. We were attending the same conference of course, and right away we were launched into the rhythm of our friendship. We spent the rest of the day together and stayed in close contact afterwards. Our friendship grew from there as we shared what Jesus was doing in our lives and how much we love him.

The Proposal

June 5, 2020

Following a visit in June 2019, I (Kelly) had felt as though God was leading me to consider Drew as my husband. I knew Drew had told God he would not consider anyone at all unless He made it very clear who that person should be. So I stayed silent. Our friendship continued to grow and by June 5, 2020, our conversations had become a constant daily exchange. I'd visited a couple more times and we'd spend the entire time together. We were best friends. That day we had only been off our third phone call of the day for a short time when Drew called me back: "I have exciting news. And I say this with the fear of the Lord and I'm still trembling: I am 100% convinced that you're my wife." And so we were engaged.

The In-Person Proposal

August 30, 2020

When Drew called me that day in June covid was already well underway. We talked as he walked towards a pond near his friend's house. He explained that it was a very special conversation and he wanted to have it somewhere beautiful. There we videochatted for hours as we excitedly shared what our friendship had meant and where God was leading us. I finally got to see Drew in August as his fiancee. The day before our engagement photoshoot we were dressed up from a baby shower and buying Drew's wedding suit. Drew said he wanted to go on a special date. He made reservations at Chop House. We sat side-by-side sharing our appetizer and meal; we prayed with pastors we met at the next table; we talked with our server. We strolled outside, encouraging a couple of people we felt especially led to speak with as the sun set over the buildings at the Augusta mall. Then we went to our friends' place where we stayed only a short while before Drew suggested we go for another walk. He picked up his backpack and led me to the pond he called me from when he first proposed. There Drew told me he had a gift for me. A much larger parcel than I'd expected came out of the bag: a beautiful leather journal he'd purchased for my birthday the month before. 'I do believe it's time for another adventure' was written on the front cover. I had completely forgotten he'd bought it. Overcome by emotion, I took him in a big hug. I rested my head on his chest. It was a perfect night. I could hear his heartbeat grow louder and stronger in my ear. Then I turned to admire my journal again. And I noticed his hand resting on my shoulder. As I turned back to face him, he lowered himself onto one knee, producing a ring from behind his back. He told me how excited he is to spend the rest of his life with me. We hugged and danced to a special song and hugged more, all by the pond where this chapter began.
