How We Met

Metro Cinemas, Seattle, WA

We met working at Metro Cinemas. Angela thought Abe was a creepy old man. He would take off his tie at the end of his shift, but with the collar too tight to button up and the next button missing, his chest hair would bristle out the overly open shirt. But it turns out what Angela read as the emotion of joking bravado was actually embarrassment masked with giggles. Turns out, they had the same horrible sense of humor and got along like a band of thieves.

Getting Married

Bellingham Municipal Court

Snow covered the ground. Angela had ants in her pants waiting for the witnesses to show up at their apartment. Abe politely told her to remain calm, there was still plenty of time. And then came the insane knocking. Isaac had arrived. And appropriately timed, just long enough for Angela to start worrying again, Nate and Julie arrive, the last witness and a spare. After a brief, joyous welcome, the small group made their way through the snow, down the block to the courthouse. A mere week prior, Angela had warned Isaac where the group was headed: "Don't bring your knife." But lo, outside the courthouse, Isaac remembered he had his knife. The doors were locking in 15 minutes. Their appointment was in five. He decided to give his knife to the guard instead of running back to the apartment. Fortunately, the guard was completely unphased when Isaac handed the knife directly to him upon entering. We waited for a few minutes, then a few more. Eventually, we were told to head upstairs. As we headed up the stairs, Julie spouted with confident knowledge the make and model of the elevator. Nate giggled with sheer delight. But at the top of the stairs was a labyrinth of hallways (well, two). Unsure where to go, Julie and Isaac scouted in each direction. We followed Julie, who found the judge. In the courtroom, with all our coats still on, Abe and I walked to the front and spoke with the judge. She had Abe sign. Then she had Angela sign. Upon asking Angela if she would be taking Abe's name, the sarcastic and quick "no" that burst from Angela's mouth made the judge laugh. Julie leaped upon being the first witness to sign. Isaac then shuffled his way to the front as the second witness. Finally, since there was also a ceremonial certificate, Nate shrugged and signed just for the formality. But after watching everyone sign twice, he also signed under Abe and Angela, forming a triplet marriage. First with a raspberry kiss, then with a sweet one, Abe and Angela sealed the deal.
