Miguel got a lassi at the Mermaid Farm

Sometimes all it takes are music and mango lassis to light the everlasting flame of true love. It all began at Mermaid Farm where Bailey Mae was stocking the stand with mango lassis and Katama kombucha. Miguel stopped in for some provisions and recognized her as the singer he’d been corresponding with about joining a band for a residency at a local bar. They’d already tried to get together for a session but it happened that day was the first true beach day of the year and Bailey, being an island girl, had to heed the call of the ocean. They agreed to meet on her next day off to try some harmony singing, and in a foreshadowing of what was to come, Bailey’s dog, Stevie Nicks, came running up to Miguel and got him ferociously tangled up in her long lead. The day of their session, Miguel lost the key to his house while riding his motorcycle so their first real “session” technically began with a break-in through the dining room window. But when they sat down at the piano and sang their first notes together, time literally stopped — due to hysterical fits of laughter to the point of tears. Why you might ask? Because it was so absurdly obvious in that moment that this was it — in every possible way. Sometimes love at first sight isn’t just staring at each other with doe eyes, but rather finding wild comedy and joy in that unexpected moment of “and where have YOU been all along?” Three and half years later you can still find them singing and laughing together in the home they’ve established in Los Angeles. Their puppy is still entangling both of them on walks and takes up a majority of the bed. On July 17th, after three Christmases of Bailey writing letters to Santa asking for something sparkly from a certain someone, there they sat on the red eye back to the Vineyard having already discussed the idea of marriage. Bailey confessed that due to Miguel’s super laid-back packing strategy she was convinced there was no ring in his bag. He assured her that that she was correct in her thinking and that any proposal was much more likely to happen on a mountain top or in the desert. However, within an hour of their arrival they were lying in the sands at the cut between Tisbury Great Pond and Quansoo Beach when two majestic bald eagles (according to Miguel) or seagulls (according to Bailey) happened to fly past them creating the opportune moment for Miguel to pull a diamond ring from his t-shirt pocket and pop the question. Since you are reading this, the answer was YES! The couple is thrilled to be gathering their close friends and families together to celebrate their union on the island where it all began.
