Travel Note
It's up to you! If you'd like to do some exploring or have more flexibility, a car is needed to reach most locations off the beaten path. However, all towns, as well as major beaches, are accessible by public bus. Taxis are also available on island, as well as Uber/Lyft (although less reliably). If you do choose to bring your car, you must take the Steamship Authority ferry from Woods Hole, MA (more info below). Without a car, you will have more flexibility in terms of route options and ferry times. We will be providing transportation to the ceremony and reception venue from Edgartown.
Flight
Martha's Vineyard (airport code MVY) is accessible by direct flight from New York (JFK and LGA), Boston (BOS), Washington, DC (DCA), White Plains (HPN), New Bedford (EWB), and Hyannis (HYA).
Travel Note
Steamship Authority ferries from Woods Hole take about 40 minutes and arrive in one of two towns on Martha's Vineyard: Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs. The Steamship Authority ferries are the most common way people travel to MV, as they have the highest capacity and run most regularly. These are also the only ferries that can accommodate vehicles. These ferries must be booked well in advance! We encourage you to reserve your ferry as soon as you know you're coming. Reservations for summer 2025 will open on February 4, 2025 and fill up fast. If the times/dates you would like to travel are not available, make sure to sign up for the waitlist. Please find information about making reservations here (scroll down to "2025 Martha's Vineyard General Public Internet Opening"): https://www.steamshipauthority.com/reservations/reservation_opening_dates You can also take the Steamship Authority ferries as a walk-on (no car). There are several lots where you can park your car on the mainland (a Steamship Authority shuttle will take you to the ferry terminal). Walk-on tickets do not need to be purchased in advance, and can be bought at the terminal right before boarding. If you plan to park your car and walk on, be sure to check the Steamship Authority website before you arrive to see which parking lot is open. There are also Peter Pan buses from Boston's South Station and Logan Airport that go directly to the terminal: https://peterpanbus.com/routes/boston-to-woodshole-bus/ If traveling with your car, it is required to arrive at least 30 minutes before departure time. If you plan to park your car on the mainland (see above), be sure to allow at least 45 additional minutes to take the shuttle to the terminal and buy your tickets.
Travel Note
If you aren't planning to travel with a car, there are a few options in addition to walking on to the Steamship Authority ferries: Rhode Island Fast Ferry from Quonset Point, RI: This ferry takes a bit longer (~75 minutes) and arrives in Oak Bluffs, and you can park your car at the Quonset Point terminal. This ferry should also be booked in advance. https://www.fastferry.com/ Island Queen from Falmouth, MA: This trip is just 35 minutes, and arrives in Oak Bluffs. Tickets can be purchased at the terminal, but it is recommended to reserve in advance. Parking is available at the terminal. https://islandqueen.com/ Pied Piper from Falmouth, MA: Taking about an hour, this ferry brings you directly to Edgartown. https://falmouthedgartownferry.com/ferry-service/ Seastreak from New Bedford, MA: The Seastreak takes 55 minutes, and arrives in Oak Bluffs. https://seastreak.com/ferry-routes-and-schedules/between-new-bedford-marthas-vineyard-ma/
Travel Note
Once you've arrived, public transportation or taxis (Uber/Lyft exist on-island, but are less reliably available) are the easiest ways to get to your accommodation and explore the Island. You can also rent a car at the airport or at a few other locations. All transit options from the airport are available here: https://mvyairport.com/ground-transportation/ The public bus (Vineyard Transit Authority) travels among all the towns, making it an easy and affordable way to get around. Fares are $1.25/town or $8 for a day pass. More information at https://www.vineyardtransit.com/ For taxi services, we'd recommend Stagecoach Taxi (508-627-4566), Adam Cab (508-627-4462), or Lighthouse Taxi (508-645-6066). Scheduling taxi transport in advance is advised. There's also nothing better than biking! There are bike paths almost everywhere, making it an easy and safe way to travel. Bike rental shops are scattered around the island, including Martha’s Vineyard Bike Rentals (1 Main St, Edgartown, MA 02539) and Martha's Bike (4 Lagoon Pond Rd, Vineyard Haven, MA). Transportation to the MV Agricultural Hall (ceremony and reception location) will be provided from Edgartown.
Hotel
Apartment-style accommodations suitable for 2-6 people per unit. The Commons is located a 7-minute walk or 2-minute drive to our rehearsal dinner location, the Edgartown Yacht Club, located in the heart of downtown Edgartown. The Commons is likely the most affordable accommodation option in Edgartown for couples and small groups. We have reserved a block here, which includes mostly studio (2 adults) and one-bedroom units (2-4 adults). You can view the room types here: https://edgartowncommons.com/rooms Nightly rates will not change for 2025, so current prices online are accurate for our wedding weekend. Please note that the Edgartown Commons has a three-night minimum stay requirement. In order to reserve a unit, please call the Commons directly at 508-627-4671 and mention that you are booking as part of the Dobuler-Solomon wedding block (you cannot book blocked rooms online). You are of course also welcome to reserve larger units outside the room block, if you have a bigger group (the block does not change the pricing, but just ensures rooms are available for our guests).
