In his high school years he goofed around with Miyah just like he did with all the people he knew at Poly. Then in the summer before his senior year, in the midst of memes and casual conversation, Miyah asked him to teach her how to ride a skateboard. He agreed having considered himself a pro at the time, and made plans to take her to skate around The Pike. After realizing she had absolutely no sense of balance, he called it quits and offered to buy her lunch and just walk around instead. One meet up lead to another and after a few outings together Miyah asked him what his intentions were. His 17 year old self responded as nonchalantly as he would today with a casual "You can be my girlfriend if you'd like." After surviving high school prom, two college degrees, a number of celebrations and holidays, losses, planned, and unexpected journeys William knew Miyah was his forever person. Prior to a family vacation to Maui, William did his research and discovered the ring Miyah had expressed interest in was sold at the shopping plaza right next door to the resort they were staying in. The day before the family was set to go home he made the purchase, took her for a walk around the beautiful beach resort, got on one knee, and asked the question. Through lots of tears and rambles Miyah agreed to make him the happiest man alive and become his wife.
William taunted her with relentless teasing and shenanigans for YEARS. In high school she'd consider him a complete nuisance at worst and insufferable acquaintance at best. That is until he offered to teach her how to skate after she expressed to him that she was the only one in their common friend group that didn't know how. The first lesson was terrifying and despite his persistence she was sure that her terrible balance and fear of falling would never allow her to be a pro like the rest of them. After admitting defeat, she decided to take him up on his offers to take her out to do things she was actually good at such as lunch outings, movie trips, and trips to the aquarium instead. As senior year sped by, she needed a clear understanding of what their relationship was coming to, so she questioned him about it. Unsurprisingly William's response was very facepalm worthy, but she was surprisingly okay with the girlfriend title. Years went by and they grew into adults together. As she watched him become a man, she knew William would be in her life for the long run, she knew he'd make an amazing husband. She just thought she'd need a bit more time to become someone who could be an amazing wife. Then one summer, years after the first one they spent together, William decided to completely ignore her clear instructions to wait to buy the ring they'd been talking about for several months. He got down on one knee. And with the biggest smile on his face he asked her to be his wife. She froze, she cried (a lot), and happily said yes.
After being together for eight years William asked the big question, and Miyah said yes! By our ninth anniversary, we decided to make things legal, but give ourselves a couple more years to work out the details for the big celebration. Our celebration of love ceremony will be a day to exchange vows and celebrate our love with some of our favorite people. We truly appreciate you all. Thank you all so much for the impact you've had on our lives!
