From Facebook to Forever

September 1, 2023 —> May 25, 2025

On September 1, it began with a simple conversation on Facebook Dating. Hard vs soft ice cream, does pineapple belong on pizza and even politics. It wasn’t typical small talk—it was deep, engaging, and surprising for a first chat. Among a sea of bathroom mirror selfies, two professionals with headshot photos stood out, and for once, both Irene and William felt like maybe—just maybe—this connection could be different. Their first meeting wasn’t even a date—it was an interview. Over a four-hour dinner at Mr. & Mrs. Crab, they laid everything out. Neither wanted a relationship that wasn’t “additive”. By the end of the meal, there was mutual intrigue and a quiet understanding that maybe this was worth exploring. For their official first date, they hit the arcade. Irene crushed it, dominating every single game—including basketball. William, at 6’2”, could only laugh as Irene, all 5’1” of her, sank shot after shot. It was fun, competitive, and ridiculous—a perfect start. But love often sneaks in during the quiet moments, not the loud ones. It happened one day as they walked William’s dogs, Skylar and Winter. Irene rested her head on his shoulder. That’s it. Just a small, unassuming gesture. But in that moment, something shifted for William. His heart melted. She felt like home. Plans for their next dates were chaotic thanks to work schedules, so William half-jokingly suggested Irene join him on a business trip to London. She didn’t hesitate. “Why not?” she said, and suddenly, they were on their first big adventure. In just three days, they lived what felt like a lifetime—musicals, high tea at Kensington Palace, and sightseeing landmarks. Spontaneity turned into memories, and memories turned into something much deeper: a bond. When people ask how they knew they’d found “the one,” they don’t talk about fate or luck. Instead, they talk about questions. Hundreds of them. Questions that explored their deepest fears, wildest dreams, and most vulnerable truths. They built their love on transparency and trust, a foundation that brought healing to old wounds and inspired growth neither expected. From there, their story unfolded like an adventure novel. Four cruises, the Daytona 500, The Masters, Bills and Lightning games, concerts and musicals ranging from Kenny Chesney to Les Misérables. They explored Las Vegas, Canada, Texas, and Colorado Springs, savoring every moment as foodies, travelers, and partners. But it wasn’t just about the big adventures. They found magic in the small moments, too—laughing with Irene’s daughter, Jordan, sharing quiet nights by the fire, or enjoying “cigar thirty” together in peaceful silence. Still, there was a deeper thread woven into their story. Irene’s faith had always been central to her life, and being “equally yoked” wasn’t negotiable. It was even the first line of her dating profile. Many prayed for William to come to know Christ, and in time, those prayers were answered. After months of attending church with Irene, listening, questioning, and reflecting, William made the decision to ask Jesus to be his Savior. It wasn’t just a turning point—it was a miracle, one of many moments where they felt God’s favor on their lives. Now, they’ve built a life that feels both extraordinary and beautifully ordinary. They’ve learned to truly see each other, to embrace every quirk and vulnerability. They’ve built a safe space where no topic is off-limits and no need—no matter how silly or small—is dismissed. They’ve learned to protect each other’s hearts with a fierce and gentle love that says, You are enough. You are not hard to love. Their love brings peace and calm but also the thrill of endless possibility. It’s additive, yes, but it’s also life-changing. Together, they look forward to more adventures—big and small—and all the quiet, messy, beautiful moments in between. Because this isn’t just a story about finding love. It’s a story about finding home.

Wedding Party

Liann Thompson

Maid of Honor

Liann Thompson: A Friend Who Became Family Liann Thompson is more than a friend—she’s family. Over the past three years, she has been a constant presence in our lives. To Jordan, she’s a beloved aunt, offering endless love, care, and support. To Irene, she’s been a trustworthy confidant and a sister at heart, walking alongside through life’s intimate highs and lows. To William she instantly became trusted family. When she moved away, we became the “Otter Family” (because otters hold onto each other so they don’t drift apart in their sleep). Liann’s selflessness and boundless love have been a testament to the beauty of friendship that transcends bloodlines. She has stood by Irene and felt her pain more closely than anyone, she has helped with J so that our relationship could blossom and done so with joy, and even embraced Hemi the Horrible (who turns out is a good boy). Her presence in our lives through the last three years has been a blessing that words can’t begin to express. As we celebrate this new chapter, we are so grateful for Liann’s deep kindness and the countless ways she has enriched our lives. She truly embodies what it means to be family, and we are beyond blessed to have her by our side on this special day and always.

Cyndi Rosa

Maid of Honor

Cyndi Rosa: A Sister in Christ and Cherished Friend Cyndi Rosa is more than a friend—she’s a sister in Christ and a constant source of encouragement in our lives. Through the emotional lows and highs, Cyndi has been there, offering prayerful support, wise counsel, and a nonjudgmental ear. Her faith-filled presence has been a beacon of light during the most challenging times, and her joyful spirit has magnified the joy in life’s best moments. Whether sharing heartfelt advice, praying over us, or joining in a hearty laugh, Cyndi has always reminded us of God’s grace and love through her words and actions. As we step into this new chapter of our lives, we are so blessed to have Cyndi standing beside us, not just as a part of this special day but as someone who has helped shape our journey with her encouragement and prayers. We are so grateful for her friendship and the beautiful way she reflects Christ’s love to everyone around her.

Jordan Froehlich

Bridesmaid

Jordan Froehlich: A Daughter Full of Grace and Love Jordan Froehlich is Irene’s beloved daughter and a true reflection of kindness, generosity, and love. Her heart is as big as her smile, and she has been open to welcoming William into our family. Her warmth and acceptance have made this journey even more beautiful, and we are grateful for the laughter she brings with her quirky ways. As a young woman with a bright future ahead, we treasure every moment we have with Jordan before she sets off for college. (Ask her about the RV we plan to park in front of her dorm). These years are a gift, and we are proud of the person she is becoming. Jordan, your support means the world to us. Thank you for "moving up the allowable wedding date" haha. You are a blessing. We love you and are so thankful to celebrate this special day with you by our side. ❤️

Attiyyah Shak

Best Man

Shak: A Brother for Life Shak is more than a friend—he’s William’s brother in every sense of the word. Having served side by side in the Marines for many years, their bond was forged in the fire of shared challenges, unshakable loyalty, and unwavering support. But their connection didn’t end with their service; it has only grown stronger through life’s toughest moments, William’s retirement, and every major milestone since. Shak has been there through it all—offering wisdom, laughter, and the kind of friendship that is thicker than blood. He has been a constant source of encouragement and a steady presence, even during the early days of our relationship. (He and his wife Shannon were the first to meet Irene at a Bill’s Backer Bar, the day she accidentally blurted out “I love you” for the first time.) As William’s Best Man, Shak’s role is a reflection of the brotherhood they share. We are so grateful for his loyalty and the way he embodies what it means to truly be “fam”. Thank you, Shak, for standing by us on this special day and always. Semper Fi. ❤️

Aiden Hess

Groomsman

Aiden Hess: A Son to Be Proud Of Aiden Hess, William’s son, has grown into a young man we are immensely proud of. Over the years, William has watched him transform from a rambunctious and curious child into a hardworking and dedicated adult pursuing his culinary dreams. Aiden’s passion, drive, and determination are truly inspiring, and it’s clear that his future holds something extraordinary. On this special day, we are honored to have Aiden standing by our side. Aiden was the first of William’s children to meet Irene and he was quick to be open and share with her his dreams and aspirations (and interests - including his admiration of high end watches and galactic vision). Thank you for your love and support. You have opportunity from infinity and beyond, hopefully the authentic dishes at the wedding with further inspire your direction towards Asian cuisine. Your presence at our wedding means the world, and having you here to celebrate this momentous occasion is a blessing beyond measure. 🥰

Sierra Hess

Groomswoman

Sierra Hess: A Strong and Loving Daughter Sierra Hess, William’s daughter, is a shining example of strength, determination, and above all, kindness. Watching her grow into the incredible woman she is today has been one of his greatest sources of pride. Her resilience and compassion inspire everyone around her. She will always hold a precious place in her Padre’s heart. We are deeply honored to have Sierra standing by our side as a groomswoman. Her unwavering love and support mean the world to us. She has gone above and beyond to include Irene and Jordan, creating memories of significant milestones (like her recent Air Force graduation, the world’s biggest Renaissance festival, and J’s first shooting at a private gun range). Sierra, thank you for being the remarkable person you are and for standing by our side on this joyous occasion. You are, and will always be, a treasure. ❤️

Ellie and Collette Chen

Flower Girls

Our Adorable Flower Girls: Smart and Sassy We are so blessed to have Irene’s sweet nieces as our flower girls, bringing their joy and charm to our special day! Their silliness and giggles remind us of the simple joys in life. We can’t wait to see “Three footer” and “Four footer” light up the ceremony with their sweetness and laughter. Thank you, little ones, for being such a special part of our wedding—we are sure you’ll steal the show, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! 💕🌸 Mike & Sophia: Thank you for being the best brother and sister-in-law in the world. Your constant prayers over us, your unwavering support, and the way you’ve opened your hearts and home to Jordan every summer to be embraced in your family so she feels more like a sister than a cousin—you’ve been a true blessing. Your servant hearts, [Mike] your dedication as the family historian and photographer, [Sophia] your culinary talents have fed us on so many occasions, and your expertise and advice, as two wonderful and smart doctors we can always count on in moments of need or crisis — have meant more to the Chen/Lin extended family than words can express. We are so grateful for you and the love you pour into our lives.

Jim and Mary Chen

Father and Mother of the Bride

Your sacrifices over the past 47 years have shaped who Irene is today and for that we are grateful. Thank you for praying over her every season of life, and keeping the Chen family strong and united. Your unwavering faith and trust in God have been a beacon of His faithfulness, inspiring not only us but everyone who knows you both. Your generosity, both to our family and to those in need, is a legacy that continues to impact generations. You’ve shown us the true meaning of selflessness and kindness, and those values continue to guide us year after year. Thank you for welcoming William into the family with open hearts. We are blessed beyond words to have your example of love, faith, and generosity to follow. Thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do. We love you!

Marsha and Ben Miller

Mother of the Groom

As we celebrate this new chapter in our lives, we want to take a moment to honor and thank you for the incredible role you have played in shaping William into the man he is today. You raised him to be a man of good character—kind, respectful, strong, and principled. Over the past 44 years, you have been his trusted advisor and confidante, guiding him through life’s trials and triumphs with wisdom, love, and unwavering support. Your care and nurturing spirit continue to bless the younger generations as Oma. Recently, Jordan has been fortunate to experience your love and care firsthand, and it’s been a joy to see the deep connections you foster within all the children in your family. Thank you for embracing Irene so wholeheartedly, for sharing your family’s stories, and for introducing her to the extended family that means so much to you. Your warmth and generosity have made her feel truly welcome and loved. We also want to recognize your wonderful husband, Ben, whose partnership with you is a shining example of friendship, love, and gentle support. The way you care for and complement one another is truly inspiring. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do to bless our lives. We are so grateful for your love, your guidance, and your example. We love you!

Tim and Jill Hess

Father of the Groom

As we celebrate this special moment, we want to thank you and Jill for your prayers for William. Your love, support, and care have been a source of strength as we begin this new chapter. Your discipline and service reflect your character and the sacrifices you’ve made for our country, leaving a legacy of honor that deeply impacted William. Thank you for raising him to be a man of integrity, strength, and compassion—qualities that make him a role model. William is who he is today because of your love and determination. You showed him what it means to be a father, and he strives to follow your example. We are grateful for the way you and Jill welcomed Irene with open arms. Your spirit of ohana made her feel loved and embraced as part of the Hess family. The love and patience in your marriage inspire us, and we hope to follow your footsteps, nurturing a bond that endures life’s challenges. Your love shines through the way you welcomed Jordan as your granddaughter. Your open hearts beautifully reflect the value you place on family. We are blessed to celebrate this day with you and look forward to making more memories as one family. Thank you for your prayers, example, and love. We are honored to have you in our lives. We love you!

FAQs

Question

Are there weekend activities?

Answer

Friday (9 AM – 1 PM) We’ll be setting up the venue during this time. We should have enough help, but if you’d like to come hang out and lend a hand, we’d love to have you! Saturday • 3:00 PM – Rehearsal For immediate family and bridal party only. We’ll run through logistics and timing for the ceremony at Cyndi’s house. • 5:00 PM – Rehearsal Dinner Everyone’s invited—all family, all out-of-town guests, and all kids (bring swimsuits!). Location: My maid of honor Cyndi’s house Address: 12526 Eagles Entry Dr., Odessa, FL 33556 Attire is casual, and it’s going to be a relaxed, fun early evening.

Question

Why does the invitation say Grand Fortune but the website says M&N Event Hall

Answer

Grand Fortune has closed and is now a nightclub under new management. They canceled our event and refunded our deposit. We have switched venues to M&N Event Hall which is located in St. Pete (not by the beach). Thank you for your love and understanding—we can’t wait to celebrate with you! #OhHessWeDo

Question

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Answer

The ceremony starts at promptly at 4:00. We recommend arriving 10 minutes early to ensure you’re seated and ready. Sit on any side of the aisle, we are one big family.

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

On Sunday morning for church, everyone is welcome, and we’d love for you to wear something tropical (or colorful). For the wedding ceremony please dress “Semi-Formal” We’d love for you to dress up with us! For the gentlemen, this means a suit and tie—no need for a tux. For the ladies, cocktail dresses or dressy outfits—think festive and/or elegant, no need to wear a formal gown, but also, not your everyday casual dress. One small request—please avoid wearing white so the bride can have her moment! We can’t wait to celebrate with you in style!

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

To make it possible for us to celebrate with as many friends as we can, we kindly ask that only the children included in the wedding party or immediate family join us, as noted on their invitation. While we love little ones, we kindly request that infants remain at home, as we won’t have childcare available and want to avoid interruptions during the ceremony if possible. We appreciate your understanding and support!

Question

Do you have a hotel block?

Answer

We don’t have a block of hotel rooms reserved, but we’ve suggested a few hotels that are conveniently located near the various events. Feel free to choose what works best for you!

Question

I have a food allergy, can I make a special request?

Answer

While we cannot accommodate dietary preferences due to family-style service, there will be a variety of dishes available. Let us know if you have life-threatening allergies so we can help identify dishes to avoid.

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

Yes, there is plenty of free parking available at the reception and church, as well as street parking in the neighborhood for your convenience.

Question

Is there transportation to and from the hotels to the ceremony?

Answer

Unfortunately, transportation will not be provided. We recommend renting a car, arranging a carpool, or using Uber/Lyft to get to the venues.

Question

Can I bring gifts to the reception?

Answer

We kindly ask that large gifts be sent directly to our home to make things easier on the day. Our address is 15805 Muirfield Dr, Odessa FL 33556. We will have a box at the wedding to collect cards. Thank you for blessing us!

Question

Can I take pictures during the wedding?

Answer

While we will have a professional photographer and videographer capturing the special moments, we know he can’t be everywhere at once! We encourage you to take photos and upload them to a QR code we will provide. We will highlight some key moments to look out for so that we can experience our special day from your perspective! That said, we do ask that you don’t interfere with or block our photographer which may cause him to miss key moments.

Question

Is there a gap between the ceremony and reception?

Answer

The ceremony and reception will be held at the same venue. While the bridal party/families are taking photos, we invite you to enjoy an open bar for cocktail hour, mingle, sign our guest book, and locate your assigned table.

Question

Is the ceremony happening at Grace Family Church?

Answer

No, both the ceremony and reception will be held in the afternoon at M&N Events.

Your presence is the greatest gift we could ask for, and we’re so grateful to have you celebrate with us. If you feel led to bless our future, we’ve recently bought a house and are saving up for some big expenses, like new appliances and renovations. We appreciate your prayers for our marriage first and foremost, and we are grateful for any gifts as we build our lives, but truly, having you with us is what matters most.
