How They Met

9.21.12: First comes bandmates, then comes marriage.

Jessica and Mikee first met in 2012 at a dance and music show hosted at the Filipino Community Center. Jessica was performing with her dance company, and Mikee was performing with his band. When Mikee and his band went up, they pulled Jessica and her friend up on stage. They sang "Marry You" by Bruno Mars to the two girls, and gave them Ring Pops as part of the act. Mikee gave a red Ring Pop to Jessica's friend, and Mikee's bandmate gave a blue one to Jessica. After Jessica and her friend got off stage, they swapped Ring Pops because Jessica preferred the red one, ending up with Mikee's ring! After the show, Jessica became close friends with Mikee, joined his band, and performed with them all over Washington.

The Best of Friends

2012-2017: Platonic Love

From 2012-2017, Jessica and Mikee became best friends. They continued performing music together, hanging out often, and all around had one of the healthiest, non-problematic friendships that either of them had ever experienced. Even as friends, they helped each other grow. Mikee helped Jessica to be more confident and hold back less when it came to performing, pursuing creative passions, and remembering to have fun to balance the seriousness of school and work. Meanwhile, Jessica pushed Mikee to be more balanced between slowing down from always being on-the-go and going on crazy adventures to becoming more well-rounded with adult responsibilities along with all the fun of life. They supported each other going through difficult times with friends, family, and even toxic relationships (and break-ups) with exes. Honestly, throughout all of this, neither of them thought they would ever end up together! They just shared mutual respect and adoration for one another. They revered each other as the nicest person they had in their life.

Crossing the Friend Zone

2017: Let's Give It A Shot

In early 2017, while they were hanging out, they got to talking about their past relationships. They joked that they were the only ones that were always nice to each other, and somewhere in there, decided to try dating. They both felt confident in their friendship and maturity that if it didn't work out, they could still remain best friends.

Dating

2017-2021: Building a Life Together

From 2017-2021, Jessica and Mikee dated and it turned out to be the best relationship that either of them had ever experienced. They hit many milestones together: moving in together, getting pets together, furthering their education and graduating, moving up in their careers, traveling overseas with a significant other, and even buying their first house together.

Getting Engaged

10.02.21: Got a Rock at the Top of the Rock!

In October, Jessica tagged along to New York with Mikee, as he was completing his certification and training to become a certified vocal coach/teacher. They normally did a photoshoot to commemorate their travels whenever they went out of town. On the last day of our trip, Mikee planned the photoshoot at Top of the Rock (the observatory at the top of the Rockefeller Center). They coordinated our outfits, and starting taking photos as usual. All of a sudden, Mikee starts mumbling with a shaky voice something about "You know how much I love you, right?" mixed with a few other sweet things, but honestly, he was so nervous that it didn't all quite make sense...until he got down on one knee and took out a ring box and proposed! It was so perfect - the view, his nervous mumbling, the surprise, and even the reaction from everyone else at the Top of the Rock! Jessica cried instantly but of course it was undoubtedly a "yes".
