It was March of 2022. Alex was gearing up for another planting season and Stephanie was discovering the world of online dating. On Bumble, the girl makes the first move, so Stephanie asked Alex what his favorite bar was in Carroll County. His answer, Whiskey in Maple River. Her answer, The Still in Templeton (even though it was closed at the time). This sparked the beginning of long conversations over the next few weeks. Usually late into the night because Alex is a night owl. Stephanie would almost always fall asleep without saying goodnight. About a month in, Stephanie suggested they should meet up in person. So, after some time delays, on a Saturday night in April, Stephanie made it to Alex’s house (in the middle of nowhere) at 9pm. Don’t worry, Stephanie’s family was keeping tabs on her. This first date consisted of watching movies, including Forrest Gump, and a homemade meal by Alex of curly fries, chicken patties, and Busch Lights. It was one for the books! Date #2 was the next weekend at Stephanie’s house and Alex made the leap this time and officially asked Stephanie to be his girlfriend. She accepted! Date #3 is the one everyone still talks about. It started with Mexican food and bowling and ended with Stephanie helping Alex and Greg pick up stick on the South Hodge farm. Greg was impressed and told Alex she might be a keeper. The couple spent the next year or so learning about each other and falling in love. Then came October 22, 2023 and Alex got down on one knee at the place they had their first date and asked Stephanie to be his wife. She cried a lot and said yes immediately.
