We met the good old fashioned way —swiping on the dating app Hinge. Our first month of getting to know each other consisted of all the stereotypes Portland is known for: Brunch at a place with a line, a trip to John’s Marketplace to pick out a hard to find beer, dinner at a brewery and celebrating New Years Eve at a karaoke bar. We discovered pretty early on how well we complemented one another, both outgoing and not afraid of embracing our silly sides. A few years later we made the leap to move in together, signing a lease on an apartment 3 weeks before the world shut down in March of 2020. While unexpected to live and work together in a one bedroom apartment, the foundation we had built came in handy and we grew closer together with each episode of Survivor we binged. Six years later, we're excited to transition into our next chapter as husband and wife — The Patlans!
It was a beautiful summer morning in Bend and we had plans to go to Sawyer Park to dip in the Deschutes river and relax. After an hour of hanging out and swimming, Julian realized it was his time to shine. As most stories go, neither of us remember many details about what was said but Julian stumbled through the points he was hoping to hit with his proposal and Shan had an ugly cry and then we were engaged! Julian picked Sawyer Park as it's a special place to us and somewhere we could come back to every July together and bring our future family. It was the perfect day.

Maid of Honor
Amber and I met in college when we joined the same sorority, Theta. 12 years later we have shared many memories and life milestones. I've always admired Amber's confidence, zest for life and the time and effort she invests in all of her relationships. She is an amazing friend and my biggest hype-woman — ready to provide fashion, life or party planning advice on a moments notice. My wedding would not be complete without Amber by my side.
Best Man
Tomas is my one and only sibling, my younger brother by 2-years. We grew up sharing most of our lives together and have been side by side throughout childhood, young adulthood and college, remaining incredibly close as adults. Tomas has been and continues to be an incredibly important part of my life. Tomas can be counted on to always be there when you need him, be it to move a couch for the 50th time or take and edit your engagement photos, I could not imagine this day happening without him by my side.
Bridesmaid
Ally is my cousin but is really more like a sister since neither of us have sisters of our own. We grew up together, attended about 10 O'Neill weddings together over the years, and Ally recently made me a Godmother to her son, Ben. She is a steady voice of reason in my life — always ready to hop on the phone to discuss any topic and share her perspective with care and respect. She is honest, kind and authentic in all she does.
Groomsman
Matt is considered as much a brother as he is my oldest friend and somebody who has the ability to say he's known me my entire life. There isn't a memory I have as a kid where Matt wasn't there, from my first time kicking a soccer ball, to learning to swim, or going away to my first sleep-away summer camp, Matt was right there with me and to this day is someone I know I can count on. Matt and his family continue to be an important part of my and Shannon's lives.
Bridesmaid
Sienna and I met through our sorority in college, Theta, and we also danced together on Jam Squad at Oregon. Sienna brightens up any room she joins with her warm spirit and interest in learning about others. If Sienna is there, an unexpected adventure is likely on the horizon that is sure to be fun. I can count on her for anything from a serious life chat, pop culture discussion or dance party.
Groomsman
Zach is the second only to his own older brother Matt in terms of length of friendship, I view Zach as much a brother as I do a childhood friend. A true coffee aficionado, Zach French-pressed the first cup of coffee I ever drank and was a major driver of getting me to The Gorge Amphitheater for my first Dave Matthews weekend. An incredible person and friend, Zach lights up any room he is in and any dance floor or karaoke bar he graces.
Bridesmaid
Christina is my oldest friend as we met in preschool when we were 4 years old. We did most things together as kids, taking dance classes and playing on the same soccer team until I moved to Bend. No distance or time has broken our bond over the years as we've lived in different states and attended different colleges. When we're together we pick up right where we left off and Christina's bright and loving energy makes it easy. I feel so lucky to share this special life milestone with her.
Groomsman
Jeff and I met each other in high school at Benson in NE Portland, quickly becoming friends. We lived together in the dorms freshman year of college, joined the same fraternity (Delta Chi), and we moved back to Portland and lived together after graduation and remain close friends to this day. Jeff played such a major part in all of my major life milestones, having him as a groomsmen seemed like a necessity.
Bridesmaid
Dani and I met through Julian, as Dani is now married to his high school friend, Jeff. Dani was the first person I bonded with in the early days of meeting Julian's large friend circle. Dani is a supportive, honest and empathetic friend and I feel very lucky to have her in my corner. Dani and Jeff have been on many double dates with us over the years, and it's been special to experience to share so many life milestones together.
Groomsman
Mike and I met working together in technical support while at Oregon State University. While we were friends in college, our friendship really grew after graduation. Mike and I along with our friend Cameron lived together for nearly six years before Shannon and I decided to move in together. An incredible cook and an even better friend, Mike has always been someone I have counted on for an honest, thoughtful opinion or to just grab a beer and watch a football game at a random dive bar somewhere in Portland.
Bridesmaid
Kait and I met in college through our sorority and I quickly realized everything is more fun if Kait is there. You can count on her to plan a good themed party and gift you something hand-crafted based on a small detail you mentioned months ago. She is creative, fun-loving, and always down for a drink and an adventure. Kait and Shan recently went to Beyonce's Renaissance World Tour together and are forever changed.
Groomsman
Ryan and I first crossed paths working in technical support for Oregon State University and quickly connected over our love of sci-fi and the Portland Trail Blazers. Ryan is the type of friend who one could count on to have a fun night out at the bars or sit at home on the couch over analyzing the play-by-play of the Blazers. Ryan introduced me to and fostered my love of karaoke and was there at Voicebox (our go-to karaoke spot) when I brought Shannon on our 4th date for New Years Eve.
Officiant
When we thought about who we wanted to marry us, Dejana immediately came to mind as an important person in our lives who knows us both as individuals and as a couple. Dejana became our friend when she started dating Mike and it felt like we had known her for years after a short time spent together. Dejana is incredibly thoughtful, kind and creative. We knew she would be the perfect person to help us tie the knot!
