We met in our freshman year of high school at Sarasota Military Academy. We had JROTC and chorus class together. We slowly got to know each other through class activities. I was attracted to his voice and his gentle giant nature. He eventually gave me information about his youth group at church. Being sly, he gave me a note with his phone number, Instagram, and Snapchat on it. We would talk every day, and he even sent pictures from his family trip. On October 23rd, he asked me if I had read a particular Percy Jackson book and I said no. He said I could borrow it and left on my bus seat the following morning. Later that morning, we had time to read during class. I opened page 20 and there was a folded piece of paper in there. I almost thought it was a forgotten bookmark, but I opened it anyways. There, in nervous and messy handwriting, were the words: "Are you available for military ball? - Daniel". (Military ball is the equivalent of homecoming.) I froze and another classmate asked him why his face was so red, because he could see me read the note. After the bell rang, he ran away and I had to chase after him. I told him yes, and you should have seen the smile on his face. We've been together ever since.
