On Cinco de Mayo in 2017, Lauren was headed down to Plymouth to go out for drinks with a few of her friends that she met while working a soccer camp. These friends were from the UK and were living in staff housing at the time. They had a new roommate, James, who decided to join. Lauren had a few too many margaritas and accidentally threw up on James' favorite red shoes. Although he was not happy with Lauren's aim or inability to handle her liquor, he made sure she made it back home safely. The next day, Lauren apologized to James which sparked up the conversation. For the couple years following, when James would return from the UK every spring until the fall on a working visa, the couple would rekindle the flame and friendship until it finally turned into a serious relationship in 2019. Since then, their relationship has been challenged facing long distance and the global pandemic which closed the US border and banned James' work visa preventing him to return to the US. Lauren was able to visit him in Wales during this time and it really put life into perspective and made it clear that they were committed and in it for the long haul. Finally in May 2021, James was able to come back to the US on a visa and moved in with Lauren and has been there since. They now reside in Marshfield, MA together with their sweet dog Louie. On May 6th, 2023, James and Lauren got home from walking Louie, and as Lauren entered the house, James was standing in the hallway with the infamous red shoes sitting on the stairs. He stated that it was 6 years ago that Lauren threw up on his shoes, then picked out a box from the shoe and got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Lauren accepted and so the next chapter begins.
