There are plenty of options near the wedding venue that are within 15-20 min drive. The towns of Windsor or Geyserville tend to have the most affordable options.
Flight
The closest international airport is SFO, which is about a 1.5-2 hour drive to Sonoma County. The closest physical airport is STS (Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport), however this is a small airport so prices may be high. If you are flying in to either of these, we highly recommend renting a car as it is difficult to get around Northern California without one.
This town is our favorite stop to make whenever we head up to Sonoma County. Nestled along the Russian River in the heart of Sonoma Wine Country, Healdsburg (pop. 11,254) combines small-town charm, stunning vistas, and award-winning vintages with an eclectic mix centered around a charming town plaza lined with shops, restaurants, tasting rooms, galleries, and bars. We highly recommend taking some time to walk around the main plaza to enjoy the wonderful ambiance. Our top restaurants: Bravas Bar de Tapas - amazing tapas, great wines, beautiful backyard for outdoor dining Costeaux French Bakery - great for breakfast, brunch, or a swing-by to pick up pastries and coffee Healdsburg Bar and Grill - lots of beers on tap and high-quality gastropub eats Lo & Behold Bar + Kitchen - fantastic cocktails with a global menu. We happened to be there on a day with live music on the patio and it really elevated the whole experience even more
- Northern California has no shortage of beautiful scenery, some of our favorites include: Muir Woods National Monument (wooden walkway through a Redwood forest), Point Reyes National Seashore, Jenner Headlands Preserve, Sonoma Coast State Park, Sonoma Botanical Gardens - "Fore" our golfers, there are ample options available: Northwoods Golf Course (9 hole course in the Redwoods), as well as Windsor GC, Foxtail North, Eagle vines, Chardonnay, and Bodega Bay, just to name a few - Charles Schulz Museum, Children’s Museum, and Pacific Coast Air Museum also offer some interesting NorCal history opportunities.
The Russian River is a southward-flowing river that drains 1,485 sq mi of Sonoma and Mendocino counties in Northern California. There are countless beaches along it that you can sun bathe on. One of the most popular activities in the area is gently tubing down the river with brewski in hand. If you decide to go for this, there are many places you can rent a tube. Some of the general stores also sell them for $15.
