Michael was on BYU's drumline, and Katie was on BYU's color guard. At first, they followed each other on Instagram after the color guard posted a birthday message for Katie. After a while of reacting to each other's posts and Instagram stories, Michael finally struck up a conversation. They started talking and couldn't stop!
After a few days of talking nonstop, they decided it was time to go on a date. Because it was around the Christmas season, they decided to get dinner and go to the Luminaria Christmas light display at Thanksgiving Point. This was where they discovered a mutual love for Chick-fil-A and Christmas lights under the stars.
Following a long Christmas Break, they met back up when they returned to Provo. After a few more dates (and a few more trips to Chick-fil-A!), they decided to make the relationship official! <3
Fast forward to February 2022—Katie has graduated from BYU, served a mission for our church, and returned to Provo to be with Michael. While on a trip to Snow Canyon State Park with friends, Katie thought they were going to be taking some cute pictures together. Little did she know, Michael and their friends had a surprise for her! As they came over the top of a petrified sand dune, Katie spotted a proposal set up in the distance. As they got closer, she realized it was for them! Michael got down on one knee and popped the question—and obviously Katie said YES!
