You can go whale watching with Láki Tours located in Grundafjordur. Nowhere else in Iceland is there a better chance to see two of the ocean’s top predators, sperm whales and orcas, than along the Snæfellsnes Peninsula coastline.
Explore the peninsula on horseback and get to know the Icelandic horse at the same time. The Icelandic horse is a breed of smallish horses that came to Iceland from Norway with the first settlers 1100 years ago. The views are magnificent and the trails taken are among the most beautiful in the country.
There are a number of interesting museums on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula and most of them are located in Stykkisholmur but this small town boast three museums; the Libray of Water, the Volcano Museum and the Norwegian House. The Library of Water centers around an installation by the renowned American Artist Roni Horn while the Volcano Museum includes works of art, old and new, showing volcanic eruptions as well as objects, artifacts and volcanic rocks from the unique collection of professor Haraldur Sigurðsson. The Norwegian house is the regional heritage museum housed in a first wood-frame residence with two full-sized storeys in Iceland. Close to Stykkisholmur is the Bjarnarhöfn Shark Museum, a museum where you can learn about the Greenland shark, its habits, biology and of course taste the shark which is produced on the farm.
Geysir Restaurant was opened summer 2018.
