Cascade Falls is one of the more popular hikes in the area, but for a good reason! It is about 20 minutes from our venue and is a 4-mile round-trip hike. It takes about 2 hours to complete. The trail is mostly flat and is considered easy to moderate. You walk along rocky streams until you reach a stunning 66-foot waterfall at the end. Many people like to swim in the cold mountain streams and by the waterfall. A must-see!
Mountain Lake Lodge is where the hit film Dirty Dancing was located. If you do not stay here you can still go there to explore the beautiful grounds. Bald Knob is a gorgeous hike with the trail head right by the lodge. The hike is short, about 0.8 miles but a steep climb. There is a gravel service road you can hike that is much easier than the trail through the woods/mountainside. The views at the top are breathtaking especially if you choose to hike it at sunset! It is about 20 minutes from our venue.
Pandapas Pond is located in the Jefferson National Forest, 15 minutes from our venue. It is a great place to hike, bring a picnic, and fish. There are also nice walking trails surrounding the pond!
Pipestem State Park is a 4000-acre park located in West Virginia about an hour from our venue. They have hiking trails, zipline tours, guided fishing tours, mountain bike excursions, and much more. They also have an aerial tram that overlooks the gorgeous West Virginia mountains with amazing views!
The New River Gorge is gorgeous. It is a bit of a drive, closer to 1 hour and 20 minutes from our venue. If you have time to visit, we highly recommend you do! If that is too far, we still recommend going to see the New River, which flows right through Giles County (where our venue is located). Some fun facts about the New River: it is known as the second oldest river in the world and one of the few major rivers in the U.S. to flow north!
We recommend eating at the Palisades! It is a restaurant that was once an old general store. It is only 15 minutes from our venue. There is also a cute gift shop attached to the restaurant that sells local artists' work. They even will have live music some nights and use local produce from the New River Valley!
The Bad Apple is a prohibition-era establishment with exquisite food and properly crafted cocktails. Perched on a hilltop in the middle of a farm, this is a renovated sheep barn turned into a classy speakeasy! It is about a 15-minute drive from our venue. This is a cool place to go visit and dine!
Beliveau Winery is a lovely winery 30 minutes from our venue. They serve hand-crafted wine right from their vines as well as food. On Friday nights they have live music, making for a fun and relaxing evening.
Eastern Divide is a local brewery in Blacksburg that serves delicious food and great beer! The atmosphere is very nice and laid back. They have a great outdoor patio with a terrific view of the mountains. (Evan also works here!)
