How We Met

We met through a mutual friend in the summer of 2020. We were both at different points in our lives, so nothing came of our run ins with each other. We finally started dating at the perfect time for us: August 28th, 2022!

The Proposal

February 28th, 2023

On our 6 month anniversary, Jamie popped the question before going to our dinner date. Of course, the answer was “Yes”!

FAQs

The Wedding Website of Kayla McHugh and Jamie Kruse
Question

Are there any rules at the venue?

Answer

Yes, there are several. If they are not followed, there is a chance of us being charged or people may be told to leave the event. - Outside food and drink is allowed prior to the ceremony, but no drinks in glass bottles. Any food and drinks are not allowed after the start of the event. Any coolers and booze brought in by guests will be confiscated. If you have a food allergy or special diet that we are not able to meet, please let us know. We will do our best to take into consideration these situations, but anyone with special diets are allowed to bring in their own meal/snacks. - All alcohol will be served from behind the bar. The bartender will not serve to anyone under the age of 21. - Vehicles may be left overnight but need to be picked up Sunday morning. Vehicles need to strictly stay in the parking area provided to avoid tearing up landscaping. Handicap accessible parking spaces are provided. - Marijuana and any drug usage is prohibited. The guest will be asked to leave or, the venue may shut down early. Please do not make us have to do this! - Remember that we are renting the venue. Make sure to watch your children to make sure that they are not causing damage to the venue or playing in an unsafe manner. If there is farming equipment on the property guests are prohibited from climbing on it, whether they are an adult or child. - Children under the age of 18 should always be supervised and are not permitted by the pond. They must stay a minimum of one hundred (100) feet away from the pond. - Stay in the venue area. There is a house and garage close to the venue and guests are prohibited from being near these. Venue staff will correct people once, but will ask them to leave if they persist on going near this area. - Even though there will be venue staff at the event, please do not act unkindly towards them! They are there to help things run smoothly, not to be told what to do.

Question

Can I bring my children?

Answer

Yes! We would love your children to attend the ceremony and reception. Children are the life of the party! Please respect our wishes for children to be respectful throughout the entire event. Our guests need to make sure that their children do not go near the pond on the property, especially by themselves. This is a possible liability and we do not want anyone getting hurt!

Question

Can I bring carry-ins to the reception?

Answer

Unfortunately, no. Before the ceremony people are allowed to have carry-ins (no glass) but once the ceremony begins there are to be no alcohol or food that is not provided by us. There will be a bar serving various forms of alcohol and sodas. Sorry, no red wines will be provided to avoid damage to the barn. If there is a special diet or allergy that we should be aware of, please let us know. If we are not able to accommodate then certain individuals will be able to bring their own food items.

Question

Will the ceremony and reception be at the same location?

Answer

Yes, the ceremony will take place outside by an arbor. The reception will take place near the arbor, inside the barn. The bar is located outside the barn. We would recommend checking the weather beforehand to make sure that you dress accordingly. Since the wedding is in June, it should be warm enough to not need layers, but please check the weather beforehand!

Question

Are we allowed to smoke (cigarettes, marijuana)?

Answer

Cigarettes are allowed only in one area behind the bar where there will be a place to put them out. Even though the event is in Michigan, there is absolutely no consumption of marijuana allowed whether it is medicinal or recreational. Unfortunately, people may be asked to leave if they do not follow these rules.

Question

When does the reception end?

Answer

Due to city ordinances, the reception will end at 11p.m.

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

Our venue requires a final headcount a few months before our big day. We request that RSVP’s be submitted no later than March 1st, 2025.

Question

Is there overnight parking?

Answer

People are allowed to leave their vehicles overnight, but they must retrieve them by Sunday morning. There are lots available for dry camping if people would like to use campers instead of using a hotel to sleep at.

Question

Are there hotels nearby?

Answer

Yes, there are several places to stay at that include a hotel, motels and vacation home rentals.

Question

Are pets allowed?

Answer

There are no pets allowed.

Question

Will there be transportation available?

Answer

Guests will need to plan ahead of time what their transportation to and from the wedding will be.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

It is “dressy casual”. You don’t need to dress fancy, just remember that it’s a wedding! A dress, nice pants (jeans, slacks, dress pants), button down shirt, polo or anything that is a ‘cleaner’ outfit than a casual one will work! As a reminder, the ceremony takes place outside and the reception will be in the barn. Make sure to check the weather beforehand to see what will be most fitting for the temperature and weather expected!

Question

When should I arrive?

Answer

Please arrive no later than 15 minutes before the start of the ceremony. The official start time will be shown on the invites and on the website. You can arrive more than 15 minutes beforehand to accommodate for parking, finding a seat at the ceremony or just visiting with other guests!
