Ally and Justin met while studying at the University of Washington in December 2017 at the Suzzallo Library Starbucks on campus. After getting coffee together, they lost track of time talking to one another, ending only after Justin walked Ally to her music class (after he missed one of his own classes hours earlier). Their first date to see the Woodland Park Zoo WildLights show started on the right note as it was quickly discovered by a confused attendant at the entrance that Justin had booked tickets to the similarly named, but unfortunately not similarly located, Point Defiance “ZooLights” in Tacoma. Not to waste perfectly good tickets, they made the trip there anyway a week later where they used the occasion to make things official. The rest is history.
