A Cold Day Led to Warm Hearts . . .

You never know what one act of kindness will lead to.

It all began on a snowy Sunday afternoon in January: Josh: I woke up that day excited to host a pop-up coffee shop with my roommate, Kyle. We had planned to serve specialty coffees and homemade pastries to our building. Val: Well, I woke up very excited for my friends that were graduating SKE that day and to see where their new assignment will lead them. The program was very encouraging and made me think about my own future and what more I could do for Jehovah. Josh: Well, sad to say our pop-up coffee shop didn't get many costumers that day. We realized, although it was a snowy day, many in the building still had their meetings on Zoom 😅. So, if at first you don't succeed. . . go snowtubing!! But of course, I had to clear a car or two, of snow. . . Val: After the program we opened the windows and saw friends cleaning off their cars. At first, I didn't think anything of it. However, about 15 minutes later I saw some random guy cleaning my friends Ivian and Anthony's car. I told them, "Hey who is that random guy cleaning your car, do we need to call the cops!" They laughed and said "ohh that's just Josh being nice." I thought it was nice and sweet for someone to go out of their way to do that. Josh: The cops?! . . .well, this is awkward . . . for one of us. Anyways, as I was clearing off my car from snow, I thought it would be nice to clear off my friends Anthony & Ivian's car too. I was really happy to have them on the project and especially to have Anthony in the Kitchen with us. But then out of nowhere I hear a voice from above calling my name . . . "Jehovah is that you?" No, it was a voice from inside the Gutz apartment. I waved awkwardly and hurried to finish my cleaning. On to tubing!! Val: To be honest, I was a little curious to know more about that random nice guy named Josh. Later that night my friend asked if they should invite him over. I casually said, "if you want too...?" but deep down inside I wanted to see what's up with this guy!! Josh: Snowtubing was a blast!! One of the best ways to spend a snowy day. And on top of that Anthony invited me over for some food. Yum, good Spanish food🤤 or so I thought . . . When I arrived at their apartment and the door opened, I saw a flash of light from heaven stream down on the most beautiful woman I have ever seen and I said to myself "Jehovah, are my eyes deceiving me, am I dreaming?" Val: When Josh said that he would come over for a bit, we started to panic because we didn't have enough food to offer. We decide to give him soup and pan de yucca (best Ecuadorian bread that you could have, we take orders lol). Later when we heard the door knock, we knew it was him. All was good for the rest of the night and yes, he seemed like a very sweet and nice guy. Something I noticed is that he would include everyone in the conversations, and he made everyone feel comfortable. He was very funny too. I also found it very interesting that my younger brother, Luis liked him from the bat. Josh: Well, I have to say I came for the food, but I stayed for the company. As we talked throughout the night, I felt so comfortable to be myself with Valeria, and I noticed how she didn't take herself to seriously, was humble and loved serving Jehovah. As we parted ways that night I found myself fondly reflecting on the evening with her, and I thought about her all week long. There was just one thing left to do. . . I had to get to know this girl better and I'm so happy I took the leap! Val: Who knew that a small act of kindness and love for the friends would change my life! We started dating and it's been an adventure! I found my Blanquito, my love! Josh: Te amo mi pepperoni. 🍕 Thank you all for being part of our lives and the start of our adventure! Let's see what Jehovah has in store for us....
