Black Point Estate and Gardens evokes the sense of a time and place when urban Chicago families escaped to Wisconsin to spend lazy summer days entertaining guests on the wrap-around porch or sailing on Geneva Lake. Explore the elegant trappings of this magnificent summer estate built by Chicago beer baron Conrad Seipp in 1888 as a family getaway from the heat and bustle of the city. Today's guests arrive at Black Point by boat, just as the family did in a bygone era. The Estate is open for tours from May 1st - October 31st. The Estate hosts numerous special events throughout the season as well. For tickets call the Lake Genvea Cruise Line at 262-248-6206. For additional information call Black Point Estate at 262-248-1888.
Tours available Thursdays-Mondays during the summer months. Limited tickets available ONLINE ONLY. Yerkes Observatory, the birthplace of modern astrophysics, is an architectural masterpiece on fifty acres of Olmsted-designed ecological splendor. Since 1897, Yerkes has been the home and school to famous astronomers, Nobel prize winners, and renowned scientists but we're now open for public tours five days a week for the first time. The world-famous Observatory's beautiful location in Williams Bay, Wisconsin is only fifteen minutes from downtown Lake Geneva. We are on a new voyage under the stewardship of Yerkes Future Foundation, a nonprofit 501c3. All proceeds go to the restoration, preservation, and programs of this international landmark of astronomy, architecture, and landscape design. Don't miss these behind-the-scenes, one of a kind, restoration tours!
The East Troy Electric Railroad’s environmentally friendly, meticulously restored rail cars offer train rides on weekends from April through October across the beautiful Kettle Moraine countryside. These are the same trolleys and coaches that once connected small towns to cities like Milwaukee, Chicago, and Minneapolis. Located just 20 minutes from Lake Geneva, the volunteer-run railroad museum operates 14-mile round-trip excursions from its East Troy depot and museum, housing over 20 rail treasures, to Indianhead Park in Mukwonago. The railroad also operates the only electric interurban dining car service in North America, recreating the luxury of a bygone era.
What to Expect This isn’t just a resort town for the living... Creepy old mansions with echoing halls and dusty relics. The weird happenings at Otto Young’s 100-room Stone Manor. These beautiful homes and buildings are really something else, and on this 90-minute walking tour of downtown Lake Geneva, your guide focuses on the haunted history of places such as the Maxwell Mansion, the Baker House, and the eponymous lake itself. Witness these beautiful Nineteen Century landmarks, in addition to more than a handful of stops around downtown to places such as the lakefront and a haunted movie theater. While this tour is meant to uncover some of the darker secrets of this resort town, you also learn more about indigenous people who first lived here, and hear about the famous residents such as the Wrigley, Sears, Maytag, and Schwinn families who once spent their summers here. On this Lake Geneva ghost walk, you’ll find out that there’s plenty of strangeness right in the downtown.
