As a history and art history double major at Mount Holyoke, interested in taking a class on the architectural history of her father’s home country, Jamaica, Sam registered in Amherst College’s ARTH 157: The Postcolonial City. Ever the craftsman, AJ, thinking he would spend the semester building architectural models (he was wrong, no models were ever built) also enrolled in ARTH 157. Bound by both the Pioneer Valley Transport Association’s (PVTA) bus schedule and her own personal need to arrive exceedingly early to everything, Sam showed up an hour before class started. AJ, usually one never to be on time, happened to be coming from an early morning dining hall breakfast with friends and figured he would kill the hour before seminar in the classroom. Studious and soft-spoken Sam sat in her preferred seat (back corner) and gregarious and charismatic AJ sat in the front row, “where the professor would see him and know [he] was there.” AJ walked in and his big line was “is that a [microsoft] surface?” (It was, but he already knew that). What started as (bad) attempt to talk about tech turned into “three hundred [dining hall] takeout coffees later” (if you know, you know) and hours of conversation. Halfway through the semester it was clear, even to the professor, that they were in love and the rest, as they say, is history. After many nights staying up working on homework and finals together, AJ and Sam moved to New York and later Williamsburg, Virginia, where their pride and joy, Ms. Hadley, (named after Hadley, MA) the brindle boxer, made them a family of three. Over countless hikes and trips, regardless of where they ended up, some things never changed. Much to his (dis)pleasure, Sam still tries to drive for AJ from the passenger seat, and just as he did so gallantly in undergrad, AJ continues to stays up with Sam those long nights in solidarity as she writes.

Unfortunately, due to budget and space limitations, we simply can’t afford for all of our lovely guests to bring a guest of their own. Therefore, we regretfully our guests to please not bring a plus one, unless they are specifically named on the invitation. Thank you so much for understanding!
No. We love your kids—we really do. But we want our wedding to be your night off! If you need help finding a sitter, please let us know and we will provide you with recommendations.
With five colleges in the area and fall being a generally busy time in New England, while there are no explicit events we know about, we would not be surprised if there was a homecoming, parents weekend, or large fall foliage trips in the area - our recommendation - book early!
Black-Tie Optional. If there is one thing people know about Sam, she loves her clothes. In fact one of her students even wrote in their student evals, "her outfits are always on point." So we encourage you to have fun with your outfit. The expectations are formal dress, jumpsuits, and all the rest. The groomsman and members of the family will also be wearing tuxedos if that helps!
