Our Story

David and Lindsay first met at a White Elephant party at their friend Riley's house in Portland, December 2018. Lindsay was meeting all of Riley's friends and the only thing she remembers about the party was the gift that she opened, which was an oversized bowl of spaghetti (nice one, Drew). The story really starts in November 2019 when Lindsay came to Portland for her residency interview. She was staying at Riley's house and after the interview was over, Riley invited some friends over. Riley said "my friend Mattox asked if my 'cute doctor friend' was visiting," as he had remembered her from the year before. Lindsay was intrigued at who this Mattox person could be. He made a great first impression by talking with her about healthcare and his basketball skills. The next day, a group of 7 friends and a dog piled into a Subaru Outback to go hiking in the Columbia River Gorge. Two people had to ride in the trunk with the dog and on the way back, those two were David and Lindsay. After that fateful trunk ride, getting to know each other and cuddling up with June the dog, it was clear that there was a spark. The two exchanged some text messages over the following months. Lindsay's fate was in the hands of the residency match process. On "match day" 2020, Lindsay was ecstatic to find out that she would be moving to Portland for residency. That evening, she called David. Since that night, not more than a day has gone by in which they haven't talked. Their first "real" date was getting Mexican food (Lindsay's first and only chimichanga) on May 5th 2020, the day after Lindsay moved to Portland. The two have shared in countless adventures since then, from getting lost in little villages in Japan to tending farm animals in eastern Oregon. Lindsay could have made it through residency without David's love, support, and cooking skills. David proposed in front of a waterfall at the end of an 8 mile hike on a very rainy, January-in-the-PNW day. They are thrilled to be tying the knot in the Columbia River Gorge, where their connection first sparked. They cannot wait to have a huge party with their family and friends.
