Travel Note
Ratho Farm allows on-site camping (free of charge!) if you would like to rough it for the weekend. There will be port-a-loos available, but unfortunately there are no shower blocks. Please get in contact with us if you would like to organise a camping spot
OUR FAVOURITE RESTAURANTS For something a little fancy Stillwater does Mod Aus dining in a beautiful refurbished flour mill If you feel like pizza and a beer you can't go past Du Cane, or if you are in the mood for Asian, Monsoon and Small Grain would be our picks The best spots for coffee and brunch in Launceston in our opinion are Valley Coffee, Tinka and Tatler Lane, however the best pastries are at Bread and Butter OUR FAVOURITE WINERIES Swinging Gate does pizza and Pét-nat Holm Oak has resident pigs who you can feed apples to Marrion's Vineyard lets you build your own charcuterie boards Stoney Rise has an incredible architecturally designed tasting room Josef Chromy Wines for something a little fancier OUR FAVOURITE HIKES Quamby Bluff (where we got engaged!) has beautiful views out over Deloraine and the surrounding countryside Liffey Falls has both a shorter and longer hike that take you to beautiful waterfalls Duck Reach is a smaller local hike leaving from Cataract Gorge and taking you up to the old hydro-electric power station. Mount Arthur gives great views of the Launceston area on a clear day OTHER ACTIVITIES Berry picking at Hillwood See the Japanese Snow Monkeys at City Park Have a swim and a picnic at Cataract Gorge Head to Bridport for a day at the beach and make sure to check out the Bridport Distillery Day trip to Deloraine and explore the local shops and cafes The Saturday morning Launceston Harvest Markets
OUR FAVOURITE RESTAURANTS Bar Wah Izakaya does incredible Japanese, particularly their ramen lunch special! Urban Greek for massive portions of delicious Greek food. If you're looking for coffee and brunch options Room for a Pony and Born in Brunswick are always fantastic. OUR FAVOURITE HIKES Kunanyi/Mt Wellington has a number of hikes. In particular the Organ Pipes track gives amazing views of the mountain itself as well as the city below. Fluted Cape on Bruny Island follows the cliffs, giving incredible views along the coastline Hartz Peak takes you through incredible scenery through the southwest wilderness Cape Huay is one part of the well known 3-capes hike. This is a fairly challenging , but is our favourite southern Tasmanian hike so far! OTHER ACTIVITIES MONA (obviously) Explore Wine Glass Bay and the Freycinet National Park A day trip from Hobart to New Norfolk to explore this quaint little town If you have the time, Bruny Island is fantastic
