A Cinderella story starts with a lost shoe… Our story starts with Dillon *breaking* Angela’s shoe. After walking to a bar to meet with a group of friends, the heel of one of Angela’s shoe broke off. Not wanting to walk lopsided with one heel, she consulted with a friend, who suggested our hero Dillon, help break off the heel of her *other* shoe. Oh, college. After meeting each other at several parties with mutual friends, the happy couple finally broke the ice at his sister’s birthday party. A month later Angela asked Dillon to be her boyfriend with a surprise scavenger hunt, and 3 years later Dillon asked Angela to be his wife at Wildcat Mountain state park, surrounded by friends and family!
In February of 2019, Dillon went on a Caribbean cruise with his then girlfriend. In February of 2019, Angela went on a Caribbean cruise with her then boyfriend. Soon after, both couples went their separate ways. Still both loving cruises, the couple wanted to take a risk and see if their relationship could withstand the trials at sea. In February of 2022, Dillon and Angela went on a Caribbean cruise. They are happy to say that their love even grew at sea! This milestone sealed the deal and the happy couple started brainstorming for a wedding.
They say that a marriage is about supporting each other through the difficulties of life. The happy couple got a taste of this right from the start! Dillon knew that his bride-to-be wouldn’t want a standard engagement ring. Instead of hoping to find something she would like, he took her to design a ring exactly to her taste. He then coordinated the schedules of over 15 people to find a date. Convinced his girlfriend that it was “just a camping trip”. Mapped the locations of those 15+ people to find an equidistant meeting place. Found a beautiful state park to meet at. Planned a dinner celebration party with their friends and family. Then due to the rainy weather forecast, booked a stay at a quaint BNB with a huge garage and grill that they could use in case it rained. Bought and transported his girlfriend’s favorite flowers. Meanwhile, she started a new job, that Dillon prayed wouldn’t interfere with the plans… then she found out that her church baptism was going to be the day after the proposal was scheduled. He was patient, understanding, and gentle through all of the hiccups. Then on the day of, it poured. At one point it was raining so hard that they got off the freeway. Still convincing Angela that it was “just a camping trip”, Dillon used all of his training and experience to stall, hoping for the weather to clear up. Finally, they pulled up to the park. The mountain was too muddy for the romantic hike Dillon had planned, so they strolled around the parking lot. Meanwhile, other friends and family gathered behind a park building, doing their best to stay hidden despite some neon pink attire. They reached the lookout, which was completely foggy and not much of a view, but Dillon *insisted* that Angela take another look. As she searched, Dillon got down on one knee, Morgan played their song, “Water Glass”, and their friends and family started walking down Angela had a reaction closer to a panic attack than to a happy surprise… Dillon had to ask her twice, “will you marry me”, because she had spoken so softly the first time. But she said yes, and was delighted to see Grandma Bevy and many other family and friends, who all walked down to give her a hug and a flower. Dillon then drove his fiancée to their BNB, whose host was elated. She decorated their room, gave them champagne, glasses, and chocolates. Grill-masters Bill, Russ, and Angela cooked up burgers, brats, and kebabs, for a barbecue to celebrate with everyone who had worked so hard to pull off the impossible.
