Our story begins in August of 2014. Riptide by Vance Joy was on the radio, Germany had just won the World Cup, and it was freshman move-in weekend at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. Fredrik, fresh off the plane from Sweden, was there to play soccer for the men’s team and further his education as an international student. Allison, fresh off an hour long drive from her hometown, was there to move out of her childhood bedroom and go into debt from learning how to do a keg stand. What transpired next was the classic tale of boy meets girl, boy falls in love, girl falls in love back, boy and girl spend their first year of college inseparable, then boy leaves the country to go to school back home and girl is convinced she has the worst luck in the world. Not to worry though - no truly great love story comes easy. Years passed and our two protagonists remained long distance friends, for the most part. The girl would ask the boy if he’s seeing anyone special, the boy would say he’s holding out until the day they get married, and the girl would get annoyed and tell him that was never going to happen (if you’re here reading this story, you can probably guess where it’s headed soon). In the spring of 2020, it seemed as if things were looking up for these two. Allison was on her own in D.C. with a big girl job, Fredrik was finally finishing his master’s degree in Stockholm, and it looked like they’d be able to finally see each other after 5 years apart. Then, of course, 2020 happened. With the borders closed and the odds once more stacked against them, they refused to let distance keep them apart. The two started dating long distance while the world around them was shut down, and finally reconnected in person again in June of 2021 in Greece. That same year, Allison moved to New York City, Fredrik followed behind a few months later, and the two were finally able to live the life they’ve been dreaming of, together. In February of 2022, he proposed to her at Brooklyn Bridge Park. About 5 seconds later, she screamed “YES!!!” After enjoying a long engagement filled with travel, friends, and a move to Atlanta, they decided they should probably start planning the actual wedding. Which brings us to now! Over 10 years in the making, we’re so excited to finally share this celebration of our love with the incredible people who have supported and cared for us by our side. It’s been a long time coming, but good things take time, and great things last forever. Thank you for being a part of our story!
