Drumlady LLC

The Bele Bele Rhythm Collective is an intergenerational, diverse group of ~20 women from DC and surrounding areas who all share a passion for drumming. Founded in 2008 and led by Drumlady Kristen Arant, the BBRC performs tightly sewn compositions of polyrhythms on dun-uns and djembes, along with exciting breaks, contagious songs, and dancing. The BBRC performs to celebrate unity and diversity, and to spread the joy and power of West African drumming to the community at-large. The BBRC recently released their first album, “Roots.”

Our performances are interactive, spirited, cultural, and full of joy. We can bring drums and lead a drum circle with your guests, lead chants in Yoruba, Sousou, Akan and English, or lead an African dance class for your guests. We can also play slower, gentler pieces for ceremonies if so desired. Our ensemble includes many different types of percussion, as well as vocals, flutes, xylophones, pan drums and other types of melodic instruments.
