We've booked four nights at the Harris Hotel in Tarbert. The hotel is a short walk from the Harris Tweed Shop and will be our base as we hike the mountainous island of Harris.

We'll spend three nights at Scourie Lodge on the barren, mountainous northwest mainland. J. M. Barrie finished writing Peter Pan while he stayed at Scourie Lodge in 1911.

Copper pans have been used by serious cooks for centuries, and we'd like to start building a collection. This 10-piece set is manufactured in Belgium by Falk, one of the few companies that continues to produce pans with over 2mm of copper.

St. Kilda is a small, isolated archipelago 40 miles west of the Outer Hebrides. Its small community was evacuated in 1930, and the islands are now a UNESCO world heritage site. Only a couple small boats run trips out St. Kilda in the summer months, offering the intrepid few the opportunity to marvel at its towering sea stacks at the edge of the world.

After our last trip to Scotland, my old hiking boots finally gave out. A real tragedy—two soles were lost.

We'll spend one night on North Uist, which has some of the most beautiful beaches in Scotland. Long stretches of white sand washed clean by the north Atlantic; just beyond, the fields grasses and wildflowers known as machair.

We've booked two nights at the Cross Inn at the far north end of Lewis –the edge of the world! From here we'll be able to vist the many standing stones and Neolithic ruins on Lewis.

We'll spend the first night along the shores of Loch Ness.

Our second night is in Oban, the "Gateway to the Isles"

One of our favorite restaurants and a treat whenever we're in Scotland! Fresh seafood served with stunning views of the sun setting behind the Western Isles.

The ferry journey from Oban to the Outer Hebrides takes almost five hours, passing by the islands of Coll and Tiree on the way.

We'll spend one night on Barra, the southernmost of inhabited Outer Hebrides.

It's a short ferry ride from Barra to Eriskay, as we head northward.

The short ferry ride from Berneray brings up to Harris and Lewis.

It takes about 2.5 hours to cross the treacherous waters known as "The Minch" that separate Lewis from mainland Scotland.

Mainland Scotland's most northerly point, and its lighthouse, can only be reached by special bus tour.

We'll spend our last night near Durness on the north coast of Scotland.
