Dempsey Kicks Ass

On April 15, 2024, we took a casual trip to the ER because Dempsey had a fever. We thought a passing kidney stone might be infected. However, we soon learned that she had a grapefruit-sized tumor around her right kidney and needed a full nephrectomy (kidney removal). The surgery took place on April 30, 2024, and lasted 11 hours. Post-surgery, it was five weeks before an official diagnosis—Stage IV Wilms Tumor. It confirmed Dempsey is young at heart, as this type of cancer is very rare in adults. On June 12, 2024, Dempsey had her first chemo infusion. Chemo treatment will continue for the next 10 months, with radiation mixed in. We're still at the start of this long journey and navigating everything that comes with it. Since so many people have reached out to us wanting to support us, we put together this registry to help cover our many needs for the next year.
