Matti was 17 years old and a senior in high school. Zach was 18 years old and working at Morgan Jewelers. Matti and her friend Luke had the rest of the day off from their senior year. (Basically work release without the work.) They had decided to go to South Towne Mall. They walked into the building and saw a Morgan Jewelers shop and decided that it would be so much fun to go in there and pretend that we're getting married. As they got closer to the store entrance, they got a bit nervous and continued to walk past. Zach had been standing at that exact entrance at that exact moment. He said "You guys can come in!" and it worked. They went in to the jewelry store and began looking at rings together. Zach asked them all kinds of questions like, "How did you two meet?", "How long have you been together?" and "When are you planning to get married?" Eventually the questions became to hard to make up on the spot and Luke said "Yeah,.. I'm not straight." From then on Zach and Matti talked and talked. He sized all of her fingers but they never even exchanged names. Zach's sister Shay walked into the store and Zach said "Hey..! It's that one girl!" which really freaked Matti out. Just like that, she was gone, but it wasn't over yet! Her and Luke went into Hot Topic and borrowed a pen. She wrote her name and number on a sheet that she ripped out from a Pandora add that Zach had given her. She told Luke she wasn't leaving until she got the guts to give it to the cute ring guy. Luke told Matti he would deliver it to him for her, and so he did. Matti had basically already given up hope, and assumed that he was taken or wasn't really as into her as she thought. Zach waited until about 11:30 that night to text her. From then on, they have been inseparable.
Zach and Matti went on their first date as soon as they possibly could. This was 4 days after they met. Zach has a really sweet date planned. He picked her up at the front porch, and opened her door. They drove to the Aquarium and talked the whole way. There was never an awkward moment together, they completely opened up to each other and they just clicked! They walked around the aquarium for an hour or so. Zach asked Matti if is she was sick of him yet, which she answered no. Next they went to the Blue Lemon. Zach wanted to go somewhere that neither of them had ever ate at before. They ordered their food and Zach also asked for a Lavender Soda - He thought it would be a new - different experience. It definitely was, and it was not a drink either of them would ever recommend. Zach asked Matti if she was possibly sick of him NOW. Obviously her answer was no. After the Blue Lemon, Zach took them to K-1 speed. They were the only ones there that Monday night, and they raced each other. Zach will still claim that Matti won, and Matti will still claim that Zach let her win. After asking her one last time if she was sick of him, Matti told him that she would not get sick of him and that he could stop asking. Finally they ended the night at the Orange Peel - another place that neither of them had been trying smoothies that neither have ever had. They sat on the bench and drank their smoothies. (Zach tried too hard for "original" and his smoothie was nasty.) He took Matti home and left her with all of the butterflies. The date was perfect.
Sunday March 27th 2016 was Easter Sunday. It was Matti and Zach's 5th date together, only 11 days after they met. Zach and Matti had planned to completely skip out of all the regular Easter activities to spend the day together at the festival of colors in Spanish Fork. They both brought their Gopros basically documenting the whole date. They were finally holding hands too!! Near the end of the date, Zach and Matti were sitting on a grassy hill covered in an array of colored chalk. Zach asked Matti "Can I kiss you?" and of course, she said yes.
The month leading up, Matti knew she was going on a surprise date. -And to be completely honest she wasn't expecting a proposal even a little bit! Zach had been talking about how he wanted to start a vlog for quite some time, so this wasn't out of the ordinary. It was March 14th 2020, just 3 days before their 4 year anniversary. Matti's mom had asked Matti if she wanted to brush out her hair that morning- (to which she responded no. lol) They started the vlog date and it was the cutest idea ever! Zach had planned to relive their very first date. They recreated first it by going to the Aquarium. COVID had just barely became a big thing, and the aquarium had just shut down. They went to Petco instead, and looked at the fish and reptiles. Next they went to the Blue Lemon for lunch. Zach had brought a Lavender Soda with them so they could relive drinking that nasty drink as well. After the Blue Lemon, Zach took Matti to K-1 speed. The wait was long, so they ended up sitting and watching, reminiscing their first date there. Finally they went the the Orange Peel for smoothies. They sat outside on the same bench as they did on their first date. (P.S. Zach was really panicking right about now) They drove home, and on the way, Matti just had to raise Zach's anxiety by making them stop at Smiths. After smiths she wanted to walk down into the gulley for some crafting sticks. Eventually they got home and walking into the garage door. The song Perfect by Ed Sheeran began playing and the path from the door to the living room was lined with rose petals. Alex and Jorden were recording them as they walked up the stairs and turned the corner. (This is when Matti finally realized what was going on) Their closest family members lined the living room leading to a beautiful array of photos, stringed lights, a heart made of rose petals and a sign that said "Will you marry me?" Matti was a mess, lets be honest. Zach got on his knee and asked, "will you marry me babe?" and what do you know, she said yes. The song repeated for 3 hours straight, they toasted Champaign and fell in love all over again.
We chose to get married on 7/7 because Matti's birthday is 5/5 and Zach's birthday is 6/6!
